My experience with Newlane
#1
Heart
I wanted to share a quick post about Newlane for anyone here considering them. I recently graduated with them, and the whole experience was honestly better than I expected.

One of the biggest advantages is the pricing model. Since Newlane is Nationally Accredited (DEAC), the value for what you pay is hard to beat. If you transfer in 90 credits like I did, the subscription caps at about 1500 dollars total. You still get the benefit of an accelerated path, but without the pressure of “finish as fast as possible or pay another term”. It takes a lot of stress out of the process.

The scholars were another highlight. Every interaction I had was supportive and down-to-earth. They don’t act like gatekeepers. Instead, it feels like they’re genuinely invested in helping you succeed. I was nervous about the degree hearings before I experienced one, but they’re absolutely nothing to be afraid of. No trick questions, no "gotcha" attitude. It’s more of a thoughtful conversation about what you’ve learned. If you did your job, you won't have any problem passing.

Everything about the process was smooth and straightforward. Communication was clear, and there wasn’t any unnecessary bureaucracy. They were also generous with transferring credits, which made completing my degree far more manageable. Also, not only teachers, but the management is always there to support you.

Also, for students that want to pursue the BA and also get an AA for free (same way that happens in UMPI if you complete a BA and then ask for an AA) you should note that in your application so you can make sure Newlane get the right agreements in place with you.

Overall, graduating through Newlane was a positive and surprisingly enjoyable experience. If you’re looking for an affordable, accredited (nationally), flexible way to finish your degree, they’re definitely worth looking into, especially if you're into Liberal Arts education.

I had a very positive experience there as well. As an update to my post, Newlane helped me get accepted into UMPI, HAU and UNIA (in Andalucía) for the masters programs there.

I also just finished there and I also had a good experience there and had no issues with work as well as applying for masters programs. Granted I already finished a different bachelors program, I thought the business admin degree was a super good deal for an accredited degree. Smile

Curious, what school(s) accepted you into the masters program with this degree?

Well Newlane shows up on DAPIP, so why should it be a problem to get into a Master's?

Thank you for our insight! What kind of exams do you have to take, couldn't find anything about that on the homepage, beside "oral exams" mentioned in the FAQ. Was it all papers/essays or did you have to do some procotored exams or anything. And how about a thesis?

Thanks for helping me out!

EDIT: Oh wait! On the homepage they claim to be accrediated by DEAC, but in the Enrollment Agreement they say:

Quote:Newlane University is accredited by Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC). ASIC accreditation helps students and parents make a more informed choice and will also help a school, college, university, training provider or distance education provider, demonstrate to the international student body that they are a high quality institution.
ASIC is recognised by UKVI in UK, is a member of the CHEA International Quality Group (CIQG) in USA and is listed in their International Directory, is a member of the BQF (British Quality Foundation) and are institutional members of EDEN (European Distance and E-Learning Network).
  • Newlane University is not accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Something stinks, I guess!

Yes, but it's only their ability to update their enrollment agreement in a timely manner, because they are accredited by DEAC, which is recognized by the Department of Education.

Most courses had an assignment per chapter and it consists of some sort of writing. After you finish your chapters and sections for a course, they have you take a exam going over the overall content, which then you do a course hearing where they ask you a few questions relating to the content and provide feedback to you. It was pretty straight forward to be quite honest. It is a great way to ensure that the content is retained. Also, I believe they are working on getting regionally accredited but I do not think that will be for a good while.

As I said above, I did get accepted into HAU, UMPI, Grand Canyon, and Southern Utah University. These schools asked for a transcript and copy of diploma and that was it lol.

Thank you @GoBroncos95,

how a bout a final thesis? And how much work was it to finish a course? And the "contet-exams" where they multiple choice or more lia a small essay?
You see, I feel like looking into that school since I love philosophy and 1,5k sounds like a good deal for a BA, if the quality of the courses is good.

I guess you were happy with the contents of the classes?

In my case: no final thesis. You are free to configure your courses in the way that you want and there's no need to complete any thesis.

For each course you have: multiple choice, research paper (around 4-6 pages) and degree hearing. As I said, the degree hearing was the part that I was more stressed about and turned out to be the smoother for me. I am extremely happy with the content of the classes, and also, with the methods. Check here for more information: https://newlane.edu/newlane-university-p...-learning/

I can say I was. Some classes were better than others. For the more liberal arts focused and adjacent classes, the course hearings were not easy. Because the material in the courses was so broad. In other classes like business and geography for example, yea I might have over stressed myself preparing so much for them.YMMV depending on who your hearing is assigned to and who grades your paper, since many times the hearing acts as an audit of the final project.
