Most Inexpensive way to get BSBA in Management
#1
Hello! I am new here, and just beginning to research my options in pursuing a college degree. I have never attended any college, and have been a SAHM to 4 children for the past 18 years so this is all new to me. Smile

I have two daughters, ages 14 and 17 that I would also like to encourage taking this route to higher education. So there will be three of us doing this at once. Therefore I am wondering if anybody has any recommendations as to the least expensive way to do this. Would one of the big 3 be a better deal financially? What are the most inexpensive ways of getting credits? In my research so far it looks like taking Saylor classes and then using UProctor is the most inexpensive way.

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this!

Hello! I am pursuing my BA in Management, I decided on this instead of a BS with a concentration because I could take more electives, aka more CLEP/DSST exams. I am trying to get my degree as fast as possible, if you're not pressed for time you could probably explore other options. I am enrolled in a university that accepts CLEP and DSST credits for all classes except for 6-7. They still require me to take 10 classes (30 credits) at their school in order for them to give me a diploma, so this fact is making my degree a little more expensive than I wanted, but oh well. My advice to you would be to find a university that is very CLEP and DSST friendly, it's been a huge help to me. I can't speak for the Saylor classes you mentioned because I'm not familiar. It sounds like you'd like to avoid university altogether so I don't know how helpful I'm being, please forgive me Smile

If you want to do something fun as a family, you can learn Spanish, French or German - their CLEP equivalent exams are worth more credits than regular electives (because you have to take multiple semesters to become fluent). I took a recommendation from one of these message threads and enrolled with SpanishHour.com (costs $9.99 per month), they say if you study for one hour per day you're supposed to become fluent in 50 days. I've been meaning to learn Spanish anyway and these SpanishHour classes are very effective!

First thing I would do is to apply for the Study.com scholarship. 3 months of use for free and you can get 6 courses out of the way.

Yes, Saylor is the least expensive method - but they also are the least popular method on this forum - mostly because most of the courses are not well laid-out, have missing links, are very long, etc. I would say that if you were already familiar with the material, then you may want to just take a $25 Saylor exam. But if you are trying to learn from scratch, a Saylor course probably isn't your best bet. More people on here do Straighterline or Study.com, with some CLEP/DSST's thrown in, along with other course providers.

Read the Beginner's Guide here to help get started. And continue reading the forums every day, as you start to become more familiar with the info on here.

Thanks for all of the feedback, that's good to know. My daughter had used one of Saylor's courses for a high school and she had said that she didn't like the format of it either.
