Military Degree Completion at TESC (TA - Go Army Ed - Fees questions)
#1
Hello All,

I am just starting out in the degree by testing world 2-3 weeks ago. I chose TESC based off doing research/recognition/military friendliness/ etc.

I chose to get a BALS based on the curriculum and on a deadline to get a degree within 9-10 months. After careful planning I narrowed it down to me needing 16 test (passed 2 Friday), a capstone, and the rest in fema electives. I expect to have all by the end of the year and will then enroll in the capstone.

In the mean time I applied to TESC through GOARMYEd, got accepted, received TESC ID (quite fast in about a week). Now there just awaiting my transcripts so an evaluation can be done.

I do remember seeing the 24 credit hour requirement for the MDCP. So my questions are:

- How exactly do I avoid that requirement? I have seen some say you can cancel it and re enroll as a regular student. If thats the case I assume you then have to pay every fee as everyone else.

- If so does this include the clep/dsst test? So far I just have had to show my id to take them for free.

- Am I choosing the best route so far:
- Getting Evaluation >> Testing/Transferring credit >> Enrolling for capstone and graduation >> Graduating hopefully by May.

If not I would love some advice,

Thanks!

Hi There!
I too signed up for the MDCP initially, then later decided to skip the program and enroll as a regular student, in order to bypass the residency requirement. You'll have to pay the enrollment fee, but because of in-state tuition rates for veterans, it'll only run about $1600 or something. If you want to tap into your GI Bill, you can (I don't recommend this), by enrolling in at least one course or TECEP, then the GI Bill will cover your enrollment fee in addition to your tuition. On the bad side, this will soak up 12 weeks of your GI Bill. So, my recommendation is to simply enroll as a normal student, pay out the $1600, and complete the degree as quickly as possible. I paid out of pocket, but for some reason TESC refunded my entire enrollment fee out of the blue. Not sure why, but I was grateful and now have a BA hanging on my wall.

-In answer to your question, CLEP/DSST exams do NOT count toward TESC residency. Only TESC classes and TECEPS count toward residency. TECEPS can be a good way to go, since they are similar to CLEP and much more affordable than actual classes.

Good luck, keep us updated.

Wow a refund has got to be an awesome surprise. (Fingers Crossed)

I am not a veteran. I am 22 and have been in the reserves for 2 years.. in order to be considered a veteran you have to have been deployed (I think). Scheduled for my first deployment in a year to replace half my unit that is there now unless they pull out. With that said I should probably see if I still qualify for any military discounts.

Thanks for the quick reply.
