I want to announce that I have officially defended my final project before my panel of 3 and the dean today, and I have been approved and awarded the degree of Doctor of Science in Public Safety with a concentration in Emergency Management. I want to thank this forum and the sister forum for putting this degree on my radar, which has allowed me to earn a regionally accredited doctorate from a State university. My total research for my paper was 62 pages, including the reference pages and index, for a total of 72 pages. The final project was, in practice, close to a capstone or dissertation, but very challenging. I will be walking in graduation in May 2026 in Macon, Georgia. This is the second doctorate I have completed, with VUL DHA being my first, but I must say the VUL program was less challenging. I can now add DSc to my name lol feels so unreal.
Congratulations again !

If you don't mind sharing, could you tell us a little about your final project/thesis/capstone and any interesting findings in your research?
Hey, sorry I just saw this post. As much as I would love to share my topic and findings for privacy reasons, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so, as the research will be publicly posted in the MGA archives for doctoral research. On a good note, it won't be hard to find publicly, as everyone's research will get archived.

I chose not to walk in Fall 2025 because it was too soon for my family and me to buy last-minute plane tickets and hotel rooms, so I decided to walk in graduation in May 2026. Still, Middle Georgia State University has the following number of graduates this graduation:

About 825 students, including the first class of the Doctor of Science in Public Safety, are candidates for graduation at Middle Georgia State University’s (MGA’s) fall 2025 commencement ceremonies.
Among the graduation candidates, 20 will earn doctorates, 174 will receive master’s degrees or graduate-level certificates, and 510 will collect bachelor’s degrees. The remaining candidates are completing associate’s degrees or certificates in career programs.

This is the first cohort of graduates for the DS.c in Public Safety. 18 of 25 students defended their final projects this semester. I am pretty sure more than half of us choose to walk in the Spring 2026 graduation.
(Keep in mind, 20 doctorates are between the D.Sc. programs in Information Technology and Public Safety.)

Great stuff, how much was the total again for this program, I wonder if the Doctorate IT would be the same price or similar?

The program is still new and the fees have changed even since I started in August...

Graduate tuition is currently $ 261/hour.
Additionally there is an "online learning fee" of $ 239 per term.
Additionally there is a $ 300 doctoral student fee per term.

So, the doctoral fee and online fee are constants... the question is, how much do you want to cram in each quarter?

I am hoping to finish for 18,000

I just added up all my tuition and fees; my total came to $13,367.35, including my nine transfer credits I brought in from EVMS and the $50 graduation fee.

That is almost 5 grand cheaper than what I am expecting.

What was your initial tuition rate ?

Also, did your cohort have the additional doctoral studies fee ?

261 per credit, same fees you listed , nothing different. It all depends on how long it takes you to move through the program. I was taking two classes per 8-week term.

Just like undergrad, you need to see if you can max the transfer of credits into the graduate program of choice. The tuition for this program is very affordable, $18K is a good deal.
