Do graduate schools ask for your CLEP/DSST scores?
#21
I applied to one masters program and a few doctoral programs. None of them wanted to see CLEP/DSST scores. I sent the CLEP/DSST scores to the masters program because it was the first time I had applied to a graduate program. They sent me an email saying that I would be awarded undergraduate credits for U.S. History, Psychology, etc. Basically, they thought I sent the scores because I was looking to transfer into an undergraduate program. From then on, I have not sent CLEP/DSST scores. I believe they're only important if they were used to meet prerequisites.

When I applied to Johns Hopkins University, they did not ask anything of the sort. They only wanted my transcripts to reflect that I got at least a B average, that my personal narrative was satisfactory, and that I had all my other ducks in a row. No GRE sorting, nothing like that at all. Harvard Extension is like that, as well. So, if you strategically choose a grad school, you can get into a big name one like Hopkins or Harvard and pay a fraction of the cost and have the name go a long way for you.
A.A. General Studies- TESC, 2013
B.A. History, TESC, 2014 - Arnold Fletcher Award - 4.0 GPA
M.A. Government, Security Studies - Johns Hopkins University, Class of 2018.

Straighterline - 26 courses, including English Comp. I & II, Western Civilization I & II, U.S. History I & II, Intro. to Sociology, Intro to Philosophy, Cultural Anthropology, Environmental Science, Science of Nutrition, Business Law, Financial Accounting, etc.

ALEKS: Intermediate Algebra

CLEP: Humanities 56, Social Sciences and History 58

FEMA: 6 credits

DSST: Civil War and Reconstruction 71, Introduction to Vietnam War 69, Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union 64, Modern Middle East 71.

TESC courses: War and American Society (A), Liberal Arts Capstone (A).

120/120! I'm there!

Hi Everyone, I have a similar question about Excelsior exams (ECE). They show as "transfer" credit in my school versus the DSST exam was marked "test". Did your graduate school request Excelsior transcripts and were the exam letter grade factored into your GPA for grad school? The grade did not count against my GPA now, but I'm curious how graduate schools view them.

Thanks!

Georgia Tech didn't. I only sent them transcripts from actual schools that grant credit, in my case CC, TESU, and a University Extension I took some professional courses at. It's possible I didn't need the last one, I was being cautious as a lot of people were reporting having their registration frozen over missing transcripts.
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

Corpsole2 - I have been meaning to ask you. I see you went/ go to Hopkins. What was the admissions process like for you? I noticed in your signature most of your classes are from Straighterline and DSST exams. Did you just submit your TESU transcripts? or did you have to forward Straighterline grades? etc. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!
