MSM vs MBA vs other
#31
Yes. “Stackable”. The msm is 36 credits. Stack on another 36 for the mba.
As BJ said. The msm will probably be suffice for most people, with a pathway to the mba if ever needed or desired.

Yes, either one will have a lot of management courses plus a specialization. In my opinion, a 72-credit MBA is overkill. Other than that, management degrees really aren't that different from MBAs. They're both generalist degrees but, depending on the program, there could be options for concentrations.

Minor update, I was accepted into the Georgia Tech Master of Science in Cybersecurity - Policy program for Fall 2025.

I missed the deadline for Spring 2025 application by a few days, applied for Fall, but an admissions specialist then told me they were processing it for Spring. I asked to confirm and the specialist asked if I wanted to switch to Fall. I said no, Spring is better, just making sure. Anyway, today, I got my confirmation letter saying I was accepted for Fall [sad trombone noise]. I emailed to clarify.

Meantime, I am actually enrolled in UIUC iMSM, with my first high-engagement classes beginning today. I have already done some of the Coursera part. Because of deadlines, it made sense to start at UIUC even if I wasn't sure I would stay with it, because I don't actually pay tuition for a couple of weeks while I figure out Georgia Tech.

I think most likely, I will stay with UIUC, unless I find some really good answers from GT about a few concerns I have, including the Spring vs Fall thing.

Mainly posting for community knowledge about acceptance odds.

I am taking two this term.

A full standard load at UIUC is two classes per 8-week term, but you can take fewer. I've also heard of people taking three at a time, but I think you need some sort of academic advisor sign-off to take three.
