The other forum posted about this a few months ago, but that thread devolved into a comedy act about the name. I do wish they would have just called it a graduate certificate. Anyway, the credential is completed by MOOCs on edX. There are five courses to complete at $150 each for the verified certificate. At the end of the program, there is a required, proctored exam that costs several hundred dollars. The total cost will be $1200-1500. Since they are offering testing sites globally, I'm assuming that the difference in cost for the final exam varies depending on location.
Students who complete the credential will be able to apply to MIT's blended, supply chain management master's without taking the GRE or GMAT and will be given credit for the edX courses; but, the program costs $33,000. The edX courses are only offered once a year and some of them do have prerequisites. The final exam is only offered once a year.

very valuable- I think programs like this allow people who may not have full confidence in their ability to apply to a school like MIT are going to jump on it. If this were my field, I know I would! That's exactly what attracted me to Harvard.

My understanding is the completion is not remotely a guarantee to acceptance into the full masters program. Despite not needing a GRE or GMAT, applicants will probably need a very undergrad degree from a top level school as typical of what one would expect from MIT. I am curious of how these micromasters will evolve. I really hope this breaks up the monopoly of over priced graduation programs.

Most of these micromasters programs don't transfer into 100% online programs. UMUC now has two micromasters programs that transfer into their online programs. UMUC accepts anyone who meets minimum requirements.

MIT spells this out pretty well:
Note the difference compared to the full-time 10-month SCM Masters Program. For the Blended SCM Masters program, we will not require applicants to take the GMAT or GRE test, nor will we be looking at their undergraduate GPA, nor the undergraduate courses they have taken. Performance in the five online courses and comprehensive final exam will substitute for these items. This allows learners with non-traditional backgrounds and education to enter into the SCM masters program.
However, since the Blended Masters students will need to complete their research project in only five months instead of the usual 10 months, we will be looking closely at the outline of their proposed research project. Successful candidates will need to put time and energy into carefully preparing their research project in advance of their application, preferably including engagement with a company or agency or other organization to sponsor their project.
Admission Criteria for the Blended SCM Master's Degree
For the Blended SCM Master's Program, the admissions committee will review the following items:
Performance in the five online courses (SC0x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x) and the comprehensive final exam
Undergraduate transcript to confirm bachelor’s degree
IELTS/TOEFL from non-English-speaking nations (TOEFL: Minimum score required: 100, IELTS: Minimum score required: 7)
Written description of research project proposal (examples of past SCM research projects)
Video statement of research interests
Resume to review at least two years of work experience and any awards or commendations
Letters of Recommendation (2)
Research Project --- SCMb applicants will need to create a two-page description of their proposed Research Project.
