MAOL Roll Call
#51
12 courses one per course is 1 year to finish the degree.

six 8 week terms @2000/each = 16k.

So a masters degree in 1 year for 16k isn't completely terrible.

Or you can save a few grand going the Brandman route, they're $3500/6 month term, you can probably finish it in a year or two terms at $7000. Then there is the option of going the WGU MSML route as well, if you finish in two terms, it's slightly over $8K. I dunno really, it depends on your learning/studying style - whichever floats your boat wins!

Or go to WGU and complete a master's in 1 term for under $4,500 and it's also competency based. Many state schools are much less than $16K for a masters degree if you're a resident. He'd have much cheaper tuition at his state school he's said in previous posts.

Brandman is actually much longer. Their papers are longer.....like waaaaay longer. That's partly why I decided against their program. Brandman told me to expect a minimum of a year which wasn't really realistic. They told me to plan for at least a year and a half.

My schedule has been:

530am wake up, get ready for work and let my beagle outside.
6am work
11am take lunch
1130am work
230pm walk my beagle
3pm study on UMPI's CBE platform and research topics for the MAOL milestones.
6pm eat dinner at my desk and read transcripts of videos etc
1am finish whatever thing I'm typing or article and save.
130am brush my teeth and go to bed.

Rinse and repeat monday to friday. Now for the weekends, I take a break on Saturday usually. BUt I spend 12 hours on Sunday.

I spent 12 hours day on this class, and I'm still only 60% the way through.

KEep in mind, I was able to do freaken 13 classes, with 9 Upper Levels in 7 weeks! But, this class? It's going to take me over a MONTH to finish. It's more writing and work than ALL of their upper levels COMBINED.

Honestly, I'm breaking down and I don't want to do this anymore. I just sent Jessica an email telling her after this term, I'm done. They did not design this with a working adult in mind. At all. This is designed like a week by week semester course. If I wanted that, I'd have gone to CalState where I get a home state discount.

That's insane! That's soooooooo much more time than the undergrad degrees. Like a crazy difference. I'm sad to see you leave the program, but I completely understand why. You have to save your sanity.

I have made the decision after this term, I am going to withdraw. I'll finish this class and finish with about 2 classes done in 2 months. It's not bad, about a 1 year pace, but, the amount of dedication, work, and access to paywall websites was just too much for me to handle with my own day job, romantic life, and still recovering (it takes sometimes up to 3 years to feel normal after a heart transplant).

I sent a very long and detailed email about my reasons for withdrawing, and how, this program was not designed for a working adult in mind. They would like to discuss this with the Dean and the President. So, I'll have see what happens. In addition a large reason I want to withdraw is the cost. I thought it'd be fine, if I can continue at UMPI versus Brandman, even though I knew it would cost double what Brandan did for 6 months. But, I figured, hey, I could probably do this in 6 months at UMPI. If I did these courses at a realistic pace, for a realistic person, working on it a few hours a day, it'd take me the entire term, maybe more than a term to complete a single one. That isn't good. This also signifies to me, possibly why other schools on the Strut platform using the MAOL course baseline has 6 month terms, not 2 months.

I brought a lot of good publicity to this school, and helped them boost enrollment numbers drastically along with ss20ts.

This isn't an easy decision. I'm actually upset with myself for deciding this, as I had it on my mind, I could also achieve this too. But, no, I can't. Not with their time dedication being like this. I'll probably return to college later in the future, in my home state, of California, and take advantage of my home state discount.

Also, I do not want anyone, including UMPI to blame the professor. He is amazing, and awesome. I think this was a decision done at higher then the professor, or by Strut themselves. This is not a good exposure to a grad entry level program, in my opinion. So far the two professors I've had Professor Wickramasinghe and Professor Biron have both been absolutely amazing and I have learned a lot from them. Both have been more then willing to discuss anything relating to the MAOL with me.

I understand your situation that's hard to go from accelerating fast to going at a snail's pace.

I run my own business so my situation is that I just don't have the time to commit to a Master's Degree unless I can do it in 6 months or less.  It was hard for me even to commit to the bachelor's degree but I'm glad I did because all the new information did change my way of thinking and brought me new confidence.

I was looking at Purdue or WGU master's program.  This guy said he did the WGU MBA in just 2 months.

Wonder why they used paywall websites. That's so weird! I wouldn't pay to read all kinds of articles. I already paid tuition and this program is supposed to be all encompassing so no extra fees.

I'm sad for you! If you do transfer, maybe look for a program that accepts transfer credit and try to get these in? Some grad schools do accept transfer credit.

The MAOL is a Strut degree. It's not one UMPI or Brandman created. It sounds like they went overboard on the requirements.

I've seen MANY people complete their MBA or MSML in a single term at WGU. If you could complete 1 degree and begin another in 1 term at WGU, many people would. Lots of people do both the MBA and MSML because it's like 4 courses extra to complete both.

They're redesigning that competency for the next term after my feedback on it.

Awesome news! It's like no one sat down and actually completed these courses. It's like Strut just came up with the idea and didn't actually apply it to the real world.

It's the learning platform at UMPI, Brandman, and others.
