True enough.
Why did your wife go with Fort Hays? They have a 30 credit residency, right?
Yeah, TESC seems to be twice as expensive for non-US nationals. If you are considering TESC, then you really should go for one of their Bachelors instead because they accept 2xx level courses as upper level. That's a big bang for your buck (or rather pound).
Have you considered COSC?

Yes, COSC is certainly cheaper than TESC and on par with ECE (spot the affordability trend in evaluating colleges).
It appears from information here that COSC may accept as many or fewer ALEKS courses than EC. So, again the credit/cost factor becomes important.
I've read and tried to digest just about all the material available for all three of these colleges. At a push, EC and COSC cost roughly the same but of course COSC sounds far more plausible an educational institution. TESC also has a reasonable name, accepts more ALEKS credit but costs more to enroll and graduate.
My wife's Chinese and essentially did distance-learning through a partner college in China before she came to the UK to do her first post-grad. She thinks it's funny that I may end up with credit from her Alma Mater
Get the credit first, get the degree ready, then think about what to do next

I agree with you that "A pass is a pass and A degree is a degree". I got a 51/50 on american government and I am happy with that.
After you have a few years of work experiance and a few certifications, the degree type is not that important, but you do need a degree.
I heard many years ago that employers respect the liberal arts degree because it shows you can learn a wide range of subjects and can be trained.
I took the test for the Mechanical contractors license mainly because I did not have a degree of any kind and I needed to show the world I knew something of the business I was in.
My military credits are all in the structural aviation area, hopefully I can apply them in the free elective area for the BS.
I need to schedule another CLEP test for next week but don't know which one.... anyone have any ideas?
Any easy ones out there? I only have a week to study.

Introductory Sociology CLEP or Information Systems and Computer Applications CLEP are two possibles. With a bit of common sense and a lot of the free material available the sociology test was quite straight-forward. If you've ever used a computer and had to put in a bit of extra memory, that CLEP is also doable with minimum study.
Practice tests are very useful. If you are only going to buy one book, get the official CLEP study guide. It has a practice test for every CLEP and a breakdown for each test syllabus, although no learning material as such. If you can go through any test in the guide and say 'ok, I know that' or it looks like something you can brush up on quickly, then that's probably a good test for you.

From China!! That's amazing. You are truely opening my mind. Just when I got used to someone from UK getting a degree remotely the US, you went one step further!

irnbru, can you please tell me what you think of ALEKS? How difficult was it? I see your end dates for the ALEKS courses but when did you start?

Was fortunate to pass the Beginning Algebra initial assessment. Took a break after Trigonometry that ended up being a bit longer. Took a few assessments to get through the College Algebra with Trigonometry 70% level. Doing the tutorials for the first time was useful to learn how ALEKS assessments prefers answers to be presented, e.g. rounding up numbers or presenting surds.
Stats was something completely new to me. My Intro to Stats course initial assessment was 24%, started the day after the last maths course. Had to knuckle down and just work through the pie after work. Total time for all nine courses (most of which was spent on assessments and learning Stats) was 94.7 hours when I called up ALEKS today to close my account and thanked them for such an excellent service and opportunity.
I highly recommend ALEKS.
