I think I understand the apply, enroll in a tecep or class, it’s good for 12 months.
My question is do you have to take a class through them in that 12 months to stay active, or does transferring more credits to them to so you are working towards it, even if taking the classes somewhere else, count to stay active?

You have to register for a TECEP. If you end up not taking the TECEP, you are fine. I would not try this with a course.
EC is where you need to continue sending credits to them every 6 months or so to stay active. It's a great way to do it. Unfortunately, TESU does not have that option.

And the 12 month clock starts when you register for the TECEP, or the day it’s scheduled?

@Insert Name, the cheapest way tp get enrolled is to take the 1 credit TECEP - Medical Terminology. To answer your question - neither. The clock starts when you become enrolled. If you pass the exam, great, that credit will go into your free electives or in the "other" field if it's not needed. If you skip it, you still get enrolled 10 days after the start of the term. I wouldn't recommend enrolling by taking courses, unless you're going to try to remove the residency waiver fee by taking 16 credits for residency purposes.
