KCTCS - everythng you need to know
#11
just finished my last course, that makes 12 credits in about 2 weeks. the technical bugs get a little frustrating. of the 4 courses i took. each one got stuck on content. they were all fixed the next day. but if you plan on hammering a course on the weekend and it gets stuck saturday, you have to wait for the instructor to fix it. I recommend you write your instructors name so you can find them in the kctcs global address book when you need to email them since they are not always listed in blackboard.
Over all, i would say that I am very pleased with their system, it is on par with straighterline but costs more.

now i just need to get my transcript to tesc by april 1.

JaronB34 - yes they are un-proctored.

Do you they have a time limit on when you must finish a course or module?

Danielle

EDIT : I found the answer so I thought I'd post it for others.

In order to register for course modules, students must select a start date for each course module and accept the subsequent end date (this date will be available to students prior to completing the registration process). The class end date is the required date by which the course module and terms of the Learning Contract must be completed. Maximum lengths of time for course module completion are determined by the credit hours that are awarded for each module as follows:

Course or Module Credit Hour - Maximum Length of Time for Course or Module Completion
.1 to .5.................................................................3 weeks
.6 to 1.0...............................................................5 weeks
1.1 to 1.5.............................................................8 weeks
1.6 to 2.0............................................................10 weeks
2.1 to 2.5............................................................13 weeks
2.6 and above......................................................15 weeks

This is great information. Thank you so much for outlining the steps you took. I am just starting to plan out a CIS degree at TESC. Do you know if it is possible to complete all 18 Area of Study credits required using KCTCS? How can I tell which courses would satisfy this requirement?

dont confuse the web classes with the on-demand. on demand are not proctored. as far as the CIS, i was able to cover all my CIS electives from kctcs. just work with your tesc advisor to make sure what you choose fits your degree plan.

One more question (though I can't promise it will be the last)--What course code and number did TESC assign to NIS-160 from KCTCS?

Thanks for blazing the trail!

Does anyone know if KCTCS will transcribe the SL courses onto a transcript as soon as you send them? Also, do they give letter grades.

This is important to me because my son, who is looking to play college football, will be better off have a CC transcript rather than EC, COSC or TESC. Once you enroll in a 4 year university eligibility gets tricky.

Can anyone answer the following questions about possible KCTCS equivalents to TESC courses?

1. Is KCTCS BAS-212 Introduction to Financial Management equivalent to TESC FIN-301 Principles of Finance?

2. Is KCTCS BAS-290 Management, Ethics & Society equivalent to TESC BUS-311 Business in Society? I'll probably take the DSST Business Ethics exam or even the Penn Foster International Business course instead, but I want to explore other options in case I need them.

3. Is there a KCTCS equivalent to TESC BUS-421 Strategic Management? I know that Penn Foster has an equivalent course of pretty much the same name, but am curious if KCTCS has something too.

Thanks for the help!

Irish: I emailed about transferring BAS 212 in as FIN 301, TESC said it works.

I talked to someone on the phone at KCTCS about transferring credits to a college outside of Kentucky other than TESC, they said I could, but I'm still hesitant, has anyone transferred KCTCS online credits to a college thats not TESC or in KY?
