Sorry to hear that dude, although I have to admit I expected as such. An OCS recommendation from the Chief of Naval Operations really shouldn't be something that comes so easy, although I do respect the massive cajones it took to ask. I am reminded of the story about Christopher Columbus asking to be named Grand Admiral of the Ocean. hilarious If you still want a rec, maybe you should start with your DivO and work your way up. Perhaps you have just planted a seed. Who knows where life will lead you and if your paths will cross in the future. If they do, you will have made an impression and may be given opportunities because of this interaction. Don't kick yourself. You knew the worst case scenario going in was a possible "no."

If you have ever worked in sales, you are taught that each "no" is just one step closer to your "yes."

Keep on trying!

What rank is your CO? Have you tried getting a LOR from HIS boss?

I just applied to OCS and here's what I did. I asked my Company Commander (O3) for a LOR. We talked a bit, and then I asked if he could set up an interview with our Battalion Commander (O5) so I could obtain a LOR from him as well. What ended up happening is that I wrote my own LOR and the BN CDR just signed it without even interviewing me. Too easy. Big Grin

Perhaps you could swing something similar.

notaseal Wrote:Well I got DENIED as I thought. Heres a play by play

We had a meeting about 12 of us, all E-6, E-7's then theres lonely E-3 me.

He gets up leaves next door, I follow. I ask his security for a second alone, he told me to talk to the captain (O-6) I asked him he told me go ahead, then there was an O-5 in army, she let me go. Then as I walk up he trys to pose for a picture I tell him its strictly business and ask for the letter. He tells me absolutely not, and that he has to know the person first. I asked him if he had a minute lol. Then he left into the sunset... probably wondering who that cocky ass E-3 was.

I would hit him up from now up with happy birthday cards, happy anniversary cards, tickets to events blah blah blah. Eventually he will remember your name. Remember play the politics games. At that level thats all it is. What favor can you do for me what can i do for you.
Keep moving forward so he cant forget you. Give him a chance to do so and he will forget you.
Good luck! And sorry to hear about the first rejection.
