Is there such a thing as too musch studing?
#1
Okay, I am taking my first CLEP. It was suppose to be today but I felt I was not ready for it so I rescheduled it. I have been studying for a week now and I am using IC. My study plan is I will not go onto the next section of flashcards until I recieve a 100% on the prior section. The CLEP I am signed up for and going to take Wednesday is Into to Psychology. Ok, ok here is my question am I studing to much for the test. I really do not know what I really need to prepare for this test. I know in the forums everyone says that IC is enough. Should I just chill and take the test? Or keep going strong day and night!

Als try to go through the IC flashcards Randomly. One very helpful tool is the Peterson Free Prep Exams. If you haven't already done this I would suggest you do all three of them, this should give you the feel of being ready or not at least it works for me.
All the best. I will be writing that exam in about two weeks I am using the IC, REA and Peterson Prep Exams. I will start studying for it soon

I panicked, fretted, and studied tons thinking that it all seemed too easy. How could Instantcert possibly work? If it did, why didn't everyone take advantage of it?
I was getting about 80-90% of the flash cards on random. As everyone says, the important thing is to read the explanations every time! I took all three of the Petersons test and scored in the mid-60's, and passed the CLEP with a 69.
I suggest you take at least one Petersons exam to see where you are, and plan your test from there. Best of luck!

Ditto. Make sure you're studying the explanations; if you just focus on the blanks, you could be missing critical information for the test.

Also, as others have said, the Petersons sample tests are a great way to gauge your progress, but more importantly, what you learn from them can boost your score by a few points.

Good luck!

Thanks all,

I will check out those tests. Whats the url or just a common search will work? I guess being a traditional student had me thinking there had to be more? I appreciate the feedback and will guage my progress.

Just some free advice (and we all know what that's worth hilarious )....having used IC for several tests now, I have found it most helpful to work systematically through the sections and not go through one more than twice before moving on to the next section. I have found that repetition on all sections over the course of several days is more helpful than focusing really, really hard on one section and getting it completely perfect.

I have started keeping track in a notebook of how many I miss on each section so that I can know which ones to spend extra time on as I scroll back through again....but I almost never get a section 100% perfect. You can miss several sections per question and still get a good score on the actual CLEP. The big picture as I repeatedly scroll through all the sections is frankly more valuable to me than getting something 100% perfect.

Just a thought.....good luck on your test!

[SIZE="3"]There is no such thing as too much studying as long as you pass the exam.

It's only too much if the whole process is taking you too long by your standards. Follow the cumulative advice on this forum and take a few tests and you'll have a good idea how much study time you need.

I was a little worried about taking my first clep and wasn't sure what to expect. I would recommend studying and taking a test THAT YOU DON'T NEED. Like information systems - its one of the easiest exams and most people don't need the credits but it gets you familiar with taking the exams and what to expect and also (since you'll probably pass) you get 3 credits Rolleyes

And we all know that confidence can build like a snowball - from that exam I have been fortunate enough to have passed all my exams thus far.

But there is definitely a point where you just need to take it.

I only used IC to take INtro to Psych and got a 66 after studying for a month or so. It didn't seem as hard as I thought it would be. Rolleyes
