I've been wondering if going to UMPI would allow me to sit for the CPA exam in California.
I emailed the board if they accepted alternative credits/ACE and got this response.
"Alternative units can only be accepted if they are posted on a transcript issued by a degree-granting college, university, or other institution of learning recognized by a United States regional institutional accrediting agency or a national accrediting agency. Additionally, these course title and units earned must be specified on the transcript."
In the California CPA exam handbook it states
"The CBA highly recommends that you request official transcripts from all institutions at which you completed coursework, since many college and university transcripts only indicate the total transfer units accepted and do not list the titles of the individual courses."
So does UMPI list the course title for credits from sophia?

I would suggest coming up with a plan to meet all the CPA requirements after receiving your UMPI degree, so you have everything on one transcript.
So for example, you could double major to get to 150 total credits.
Also, CA requires 10 credits worth of ethics, including 3 credits of accounting ethics.

I would make plans to transfer in any requirements needed for the CPA.
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience: CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management

UMPI's transcripts lists the ACE course name. It will say that they are transfer credits listed under Sophia, Study, etc. The transcripts breakdown all of the transfer credits by institution. For the CPA exam, I would definitely take as many RA credits as possible.

If the licensing board will take the alt credit, then why worry about RA credit? It's not like applying to grad school where you're competing against others. You either meet the qualifications or you don't.
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

Because alt credits aren't actually transcribed by a school. Appearing on a transcription isn't the same as being transcribed by. They will be transfer credits listed by the alt credit provider. Why risk being denied the CPA exam? It's not worth the risk. Many people complete a double major or a bachelor's and a master's to have the required number of credits and they often complete 60+ credits at an RA school so they don't run into any problems. Policies can also change. Today, they may accept some alt credit, but tomorrow they may not. They may also be selective in which courses they will accept in alt credit. Licensing boards can be really picky.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm aware that to meet the accounting ethics requirements I would have to take a class at Santa Monica community college or Foothill community college in California.
I'm starting to think if maybe the TESU transcript might be the better option. From what I can tell it looks like the Sophia credits are listed under Assessment credits, this would look better than the UMPI transcript showing up as Sophia credits I would think. I looked around briefly for a UMPI transcript but couldn't find one.
The youngest CPA that was from California went to TESU now that I think about it.

Accounting for now would ideally be my backup plan if going for a CS degree from TESU or WGU doesn't work out.
