and the ITIL cert seems to be a pain in the butt too (I'm not sure teh ITIL cert is included in the software dev degree, but the material is taught)

I've said twice (now 3x) that if you have the background, it shouldn't be an issue. As far as the ITIL test, I read from several sources that it was a bear. The easy way around it is to take the MIS DSST before you enroll.
One of the certs I didn't want to take on WGU's timeline was the CCSP. After some research, I found out they would accept the CCSK (which is an open book test) in lieu of it. The transfer guides are a literal gold mine of information, as is this forum. Dfrecore was the one that clued me in on the MIS DSST trick.

I agree, I think MANY people who go to WGU for IT already have a background in it, and some have many years of it, and are at the point in their career where they're ready to move into upper management, but the lack of degree is holding them back.
I knew that the DSST MIS exam worked in place of the Business of IT-Apps requirement because my husband took the exam and it got put on his eval there. But it also says that in the transfer guidelines. You an also take a MIS course from Study.com or Ed4Credit. I think Saylor has something that will work there as well but can't remember.
Point is, there are easy ways to meet many of the requirements, you don't have to resign yourself to 2 terms if you can find ways to take courses/exams and reduce the number of courses you have to take, to get it to a solid 1 term.

and if you have the math background then the CLEP College Algebra exam should be easy
and if you have the chemistry background then the CLEP Chemistry exam should be easy
and if you have the programming background then the UExcel Java exam should be easy
so duh, OBVIOUISLY if you have the background you can do 4 exams in 8 days
and if you have the background you can complete the WGU software dev degree in a single 6 month term
but the only thing we know about the OP's background is
4/25/2019: Study - Systems Analysis & Design ($70)
4/22/2019: Study - Discrete Math ($80)
4/15/2019: Study - Intro to Operation Systems ($80)
3/15/2019: Saylor - Introduction to Computer Science I ($25)

which presumably is why quigongene was qualifying his statement by saying it depends on their background? i'm not sure what you're taking offense with.

ALL courses and exams are easy or hard depending on someone's background. I'm not sure why he's getting upset either.

Hi quigongene,
Is there any alternate credit available for Applied Algebra?
BS - Software development

I would assume ALEKS College Algebra, CLEP College Algebra, or SDC/SL would work. Unfortunately, this is a fairly new requirement, so hard to call.

Here's what their transfer guidelines says: One course in College Algebra or a course at a level higher than College Algebra (Calculus, Trigonometry, Linear Algebra). Cannot be satisfied by an intermediate algebra or quantitative reasoning course.
