Is Shmoop Annoying?

Crash Course was clearly created for high schoolers, if that's any indication.

Crash Course can suck when Hank is doing weird stuff to be funny.

Honestly Shmoop is just straight up stupid. But it's $90 a month for unlimited credits. Should they be accredited? Probably not. Should they use McGraw Hill like a proper company? Probably.

If you need it, be ready to struggle through it.

Also pro tip I just learned: go to course progressive, click the previous tests, and you can see what you got wrong. Wish I knew that before yesterday!
1. Prep Phase: Hopeless, 15 credits, need a BA fast, never heard of TESU
2. TESU BALS: 121/120 (9 months)

3. RN Paramedic Bridge - Excelsior (9 months + CPNE wait)
4. WGU RN -> BSN
5. BSN -> MSN/FNP

Most of Shmoop is aimed at the same audience, I think their content delivery style is the same across all courses.

It never gets any better with Shmoop. I've done seventeen of their courses. Their final exams can be challenging, especially given the abstract nature of some of the questions but, as mentioned before, it's basically unlimited credits for $90 a month. If you can get around the "We're like, totally relatable, bro" -style and put aside their leftist-bias, you will learn something. I look at it as a means to an end.

Let's say you bomb a test or a final. How did you go about correcting that and passing the course? I've maxed out attempts on 2 courses I should have passed with ease because I just couldn't get the answer right despite career experience (technical writing, etc).
Have any tips for me?

The only way to get around this if you've used up your retakes (two attempts per test) is to do well enough on the other tests that it brings your overall grade up to at least 70%. Otherwise, you're basically SOL for getting any credits out of that course.

@cheeseburito in future a good stratergy for beating shmoop is to skim thorouh the unit the first time and take the unit test, if you get less than 70% then study the unit in depth, take notes, read every link and try again. If you get at least 80% in half the units, then you can get 60 in the other half and still end up with 70% overall. Heck if you get 80% in half the units, and pass 25% with 70 or more you can get 50sin the final 25% of the course and still pass.

And shmoop dosent depend on previous knowledge in the field, the questions are very very specific to the material. Lots of ppl try to breeze though shmoop like SL..you have to really work at Shmoop to earn credits..I think all their courses should be given UL designation.

I agree with this part. The tests are quite specific to the course. You have to read the course slides and linked articles. Knowing context of the test questions is critical to success.

If I recall correctly, and I used a LOT of shmoop courses to fill gen eds, the only one where their "hipster" lingo was minimal was holocaust literature. For obvious reasons.
