Is Saylor difficult?

hey guys, I've been cruising through my SL courses I can average 2 courses a week (horray no life) and the next set of courses I have are with Saylor, so my question is can I keep my current pace through Saylor courses? or are they going to be more difficult and time consuming?

It depends on how familiar you are with the material. In general, I'd say no. Saylor courses tend to be a little chaotic, with material pulled from multiple sources. The upshot is that you end up covering more material than is really on the final, and some of it will be repetitive. Some courses are better than others. I found Sociology to be easy to follow, but Env. Ethics was an absolute bear.

Hi, I see that you took Intro to Computers with Saylor. Was that one of the harder courses? Are there any other courses that are somewhat easier? Honestly, they all look like hard courses to me.

I took the Principles of Marketing Final from Saylor using only this

Saylor will be 100% of your score based on your exam (like CLEP, DSST, etc.) so you have to pass the exam. Saylor is designed to be a full length college class (1 or 2 semesters respectfully) so it's LONG when you're talking about test prep. It's not test prep. There is NOTHING in the class that is test prep. Frankly, I love Saylor as a curriculum (great for homeschoolers) but I'm too fearful to try it for college credit on my kids, even though the cost is low. I'd rather pay more and use CLEP or another standardized subject.

Honestly, they all look like hard courses to me.Since I'm a software engineer by trade, I scarcely looked at the material, I just wanted the easy credits. I do recall that it wasn't not so badly fragmented as some courses. The nice thing about Saylor is that there's no charge to create an account and look over the course material. You can even just dive into one of the practice tests to get a feel for it if you wish. If you don't like what you see, you can always bail out.

So, if saylor is that convoluted, is there any options i can look at for UL's? I am about 2 hours away from a test center so that's kind of undesirable. are there any alternatives I can look at for these courses? how can I determine what courses I need to take as Upper Levels also how many upper levels I need to take if i decide to scrap the ones in this current plan. I am currently using the General Management plan I found on the degreeforum wiki which has a lot of saylor courses.

There are tons of options for the BSBA GM Area of Study (the only UL courses you need): SL and Study.com seem to be the 2 most popular.

Honestly, they all look like hard courses to me. As was mentioned already, I would recommend you trying some of their practice tests. They're free and they give you a feel for the material. Take a look at the chapter quizzes too. Look through the syllabus etc. I know how overwhelming it can be to have all these different options to hunt out, sort through, figure which is best for you...I'm still trying to sort through it all too! |
