Is Instant Cert worth it?
#11
Thank you! I had heard great things about Instantcert, but after my first test, which I did pass, I didn't know if that was all hype or not. There was a substantial amount of material on my first clep that the IC flashcards didn't cover at all. And, I had delayed my test a few weeks trying to get down some information from the flash cards, only to find it was not on the test at all. I just wanted to make sure it was a good tool to prepare for tests and not a gimic. Thanks!

I've found that the flashcards are better for DSSTs in general.

I think it just depends on how you learn. Everyone will be different. For me, instant cert didn't really help my learning style. I didn't care for the way the flash cards were set up. I prefer flash cards I can flip. In general though, Khan Academy and Education Portal were great. Perhaps this is because I have an aural learning style in most subjects. I learn by hearing. I could have conditioned myself to be this way from analyzing and listening to hours and hours of testimony in court for the last 10+ years. Still, the feedback section was definitely worth $20.00 per month.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

I'm supposed to be a visual-verbal learner. That means I learn best by reading, so maybe that's why I like the flashcards so much. The Khan Academy and Education Portal videos bore me to tears.

You can never go wrong with over studying.. I feel IC was a huge part of me earning my degree and passing so so many tests. I would much rather pay the 20 or so dollars a month and pass, then to save that money and wonder if I would have passed all the ones i did on the first try.

Over prepared & spending money > Under prepared & saving money.

Absolutely. It helped me pass numerous tests especially the mathematics cLEP. as well as biology. It's especially helpful for the tests that are heavy on definitions.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I would've paid $50 or $100 per month for IC. Most times it replaces other study sources completely.

Is there a test somewhere that analyzes your learning style? I know conversely I tend to struggle with auditory learning, which would likely make me a visual verbal learner as well. I loved reading growing up. My friends preferred books on tape. I typically can't even understand the words in most songs without reading the lyrics.

I can't remember which test I took, but I'm sure you can find several through Google. Colorado Technical University made everyone take a test in the orientation course. There are also visual non-verbal learners who learn best by watching people (or maybe even some kind of animation) demonstrate. I think the other types were auditory, kinesthetic (learn by doing), and tactile (learn by touching). Then, there is a psychologist who doesn't believe learning types even exist.

Actually, I am very much a visual learner. My concern with Instantcert was in the one test I utilized it for study, it scarcely covered 25% of the material the CLEP exam covered, thankfully, I had somewhat of a background in the subject. My question wasn't about the learning style, I just felt dissapointed to have deicated so much time to study on the program when the majority of the material the flashcards covered was not on teh CLEP exam and the majority of the material in the CLEP exam was not remotely mentioned in the flashcards.
