Introductory Sociology CLEP - Thoughts?
#1
Hi friends,

In the next week, I'm going to be taking the Introductory Sociology CLEP. I have no prior experience in Sociology really, but I have seen that free-clep-prep lists its difficulty as a 2 on a scale of 1-5, 1 being the easiest. I've only taken the College Mathematics CLEP which is listed as a 3 difficulty level.

Have any of you taken this exam?
If so, how would you recommend studying well for this?
Any insights after taking the exam?
Any best practices for doing well on this specific exam?

Thank you for any and all insights you may have!

Specific exam feedback here in this forum (if you're a paid member) is great. I like the study guide freeclepprep has for about $15.

Depending on what you need, consider taking other Psych related exams next. Intro to Psych, Development through the Lifespan, and Intro to Sociology all have a bit of overlap.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

I took Sociology last week and scored a 66. I thought it was fairly easy. free-clep-prep study guide and 3 exams were my main study resources.. Also took the 3 Peterson's exams. Take management first if you can, it was an easier exam then take sociology since it overlapped in some material, I believe it helped me prepare since I didn't have to learn all new material.

If you don't mind me asking, what were your Peterson's scores prior to taking the test?

I got 77 percent on all three and scored a 84% on the official clep practice test which was spot on to what the actual test was like.

My 17 year old, rising hs senior is taking the Sociology CLEP tomorrow. I helped him study for it and feel like I could take it too. He prefers math and science so he is trying to get some future gen ed classes finished by testing before college. We studied mostly with the REA book as he studied best by taking the first test and looking at all the answer explanations that went through all the vocabulary, then we went through instacert quickly twice, he took REA test number two and got 68 percent raw score which they say is a 60 scaled score. Then he took the CLEP test from the big book with all the CLEP tests in it and got 69 % right. We also reviewed from the study guides posted here, those were great. We then reviewed sociologists again and fingers crossed it is enough for a 50 tomorrow. He has taken the CLEP Calculus test and got a 68 but that was following taking a AP Calc AB class in high school, he just chose CLEP test instead of AP exam.

My daughter took the free Soc test from Free Clep Prep today and only got a 43%. Im not sure if we should buy the study guide from FCP or the REA book or what. We are not paid IC users because she's not actively taking a lot of tests, just wanted to knock out 2 this summer while she's dual enrolled at the local CC. I thought Soc would be an easy one for her because she likes psych/soc and aced her Psych class at the CC. What's the best (cheapest) study aid IYO? I think she will likely go through Modern States for the voucher too, so what should we do in addition to MS? REA or FCP?

Do you have a library near you where you could get the REA book from? That is what I used, along with studying vocabulary on Quizlet to get me a pass.
