The experience of the OP is much like mine. It is why I canceled my subscription to IC as I felt it was not worth the money.

I can study and make my own flash cards. The IC material is outdated. In fact, the only thing worth anything is the user supplied material. You're basically paying IC to read what other users say and NOT IC.

Might as well make a free forum and pass it around instead. It would be cheaper.

Thank you so much for your information "DCarlisl" it was more than helpful, since I printed off a practice test for CLEP Sociology and noticed too that only 10% of the questions are in the flashcards of this InstantCert website. How disappointing to read such words of encouragement on InstamtCert's webite and yet so untrue. Nothing like paying people to say anything! Everyone, do not just use this website or you will fail!

There is a free forum, it's quite good and they even opened a section just for exam prep in response to users (like me) who felt there should be an alternative. The exam-specific forum over there doesn't get anywhere near the traffic this forum does, so it's not as useful as this one. The advertising and 'buzz' around the paid product that continually attracts new users plus the extra investment members feel because they paid may play a role in the difference.

It's true, you can study and make your own flash cards, and you may even find that activity works better for you than reading anyone else's material. This would be consistent with what I know about adult learning. If you are looking for scores above passing (which the developer of IC would tell you is not what IC is for) you pretty much have to.

The skills of turning an exam outline into a study plan, gathering resources, and preparing are one of the most useful things I gained from college, because I have a method I can use for any exam (such as certifications, or required training at work) and I can turn the method on its head and learn anything with it, even if there's no exam. I could have done this without IC but IC provided early guidance and validation that I was on the right track, and for this the exam feedback forum is worth the $20 by itself, as long as it's the one getting the visitors.

This and other good exam prep methods take time. Most of the REAs I have used suggest taking 6 weeks to prepare -- less than half a semester, but it's still 6 weeks. You can push it to 3. People use IC to pass with days of preparation. I'm not going to debate the issues around this -- there's a market for it and IC serves that market.

No offence, I understand that you're new to this forum and the IC. I used it for about 6 CLEP/DSSTs and passed every one. I will not swear by it as a magic wand, but as a resourse I used in conjunction with a severe study plan. I did use it for Sociology, and I did not notice how many of the questions directly related; I did not however find any incorrect material and I know it only prepared me for the test.
...The person who started this forum actually passed with a 66 - a very good score. It's dissapointing to see you start talking negatively about something that, apparently from your signature as your first post, have little backgroud in.

You definitely need more then IC to pass this test with a decent score. I studied strictly IC, made a 50 by the skin of my teeth! All poster are correct when saying look in various resources. I had MANY questions that were not in IC study content.

I had no prior knowledge in the field of sociology. The info within IC is a good starting point though.

Hi! I agree that using additional resources can get your score up, which is a good thing to do under many circumstances. Passing is a decent score and that's what IC is designed to do.
