Intro to Sociology-caution
#11
Hi to Dcarlisle and mindytowne,

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Although I've already taken this one, it's always useful to read about experiences when people take the time to share them.

Trying to phrase this the right way; have you taken CLEPs and similar tests before? If so, how did the Introductory Sociology test compare to other CLEPs?

I do think it's important to explain to anyone who is interested in Instantcert that the flashcards are a useful tool but probably should not be the only tool as others have stated above. The specific exam feedback for a test usually directs readers to specific sources of study material that is suitable to supplement the flashcards.

That said, for the last five humanities and business CLEPs I sat, Instantcert is certainly the best tool for the particular way studying works for me.

This is excellent news, the questions in the study guide really make a test seem familiar once it begins.

Good luck!

It would really help if Dcarlisle and others shared more detail on what other specific sources they used to pass and what material was on the test. I signed up for instant cert hoping it would be enough to pass me. That's what all the amazing success stories on the forum were saying. What's the point if it only covers ten percent of the exam content? My exam is in 2 days and now i'm worried.

I am currently supplementing instantcert with REA and the official study guide. If anyone knows specific resources that target specific content on the exam, do share. I just took a practice exam from the official study guide and got 48 correct out of 69. The REA tests seem easier. I passed two practice exams from that. I need harder practice exams that match the official test.

hi Chicken- welcome to the forum! I have not taken Intro Sociology so I can't give you specifics. But what I would recommend VERY highly is you try the 3 free Peterson practice tests. I have found these are pretty similar to the real test and the score you get on these is ball park what to expect on the real thing. They also give you rationale for the correct answer so that will help you study as well. do a search on here for the free peterson test link. You will not regret it!!

go to this website www. free-clep-prep.com ----- at the top of the page it will say Clep Practice tests. Click on that and it will show you where to get the Peterson tests! I hope this helps.

Welcome to the board Chicken. Good to see so many newbies on here.
Seeing you have already signed up for Instant Cert, you can access the 'Specific Exam Feedback Forum'. This has more than enough feedback about what you should be studying in order to pass your exam.
Believe me when I say more than enough people have shared about what you should be studying in order to pass your exam.Wink

I have to disagree with this one. When I used IC, the flashcards contained hardly any information that would have actually helped me on any of my exams. The catch is, many of these exams are so easy that you could stare at a blank piece of paper for the same ammount of time and get a simmilar score as studying with IC or any other medium. The Sociology exam fits into this category.

I studyed IC, the Clep study guide and took the three Peterson's tests for less than a week and passed both tests yesterday back to back. Introductory Psychology with a 66 and Introductory Sociology with a 58. They do prepare you for the types of questions and the logic behind the answers.

:iagree: r72gsaol- very good point. The Peterson tests really help you prepare for the real test with the types of questions you will encounter, the wording, and the logic behind their answers. It is a great resource and FREE-- you can't beat that. I just wish there was a Peterson test for all the dsst's and ece's Sad

I used REA only for this exam, & was totally fine. Oh, I did take a Peterson's test, too. I thought that REA covered the topics extremely thoroughly, but sometimes the tests vary so much, it is hard to tell :\

The only things I've used was CliffsNotes on Sociology and SparkCharts. I was a Sociology major anyway so a lot of it was refresher topics. I took this a second time and got a 52 which isn't bad for someone who had 4000 level classes.
