Intro and FEMA Question
#1
Hi Everyone! I have been checking out these boards for awhile now, but never setup a username until now. I applied to and received an academic evaluation from TESC in May and then decided to take 4 courses over the summer at a local community college in order to just need 36 credits to a BA in Psychology. I completed the classes and sent my updated transcript to TESC which was received on 9/2/11. I am waiting for that and will hopefully be able to enroll in a few courses for the November semester. So far, all of the posts have been very helpful to me in the planning process, so thank you all for that.

I have looked up some posts about FEMA courses and I am interested in taking a few, since I have 6 free elective credits to take. From my understanding anyone cane take them, but I wanted to verify that. I am not in the military and I am a Psychology major. Do you think TESC will apply these to my free electives? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've tried reading up on it, but would like to make sure this is the case.

TIA!!

I'm a social science major and I used FEMA to cover 2 free elective credits. Anyone can take the courses. I'm not military, law enforcement, or even a government employee.

Hi and welcome,

Yes, they will apply to your free electives. You don't have to be military or anything like that for them to count. Just make sure the ones you're taking are on the "approved list", which you can find either by searching this forum or I think in the TESC catalog.

Good luck!

FEMA has a series of 7 courses called the professional development series. Not hard, when you complete them you get a certificate in the mail. I just got mine. Some very good leadership material in the courses.

Thanks for all of your input! I found the most recent list of accepted FEMA courses by using the search function and I'm planning on completing them within these next few weeks.

Print out the test questions. Then open the PDF file that you need to read pertaining to the course. When you find the answer, mark it on the printed out exam. Then, when you have all the answers, take the exam, using your newly created answer key.

You can read the entire thing....OR.....use "control F' to search for key phrases. There are almost ALWAYS key words within the question itself that can be used to find the exact section/answer within the document. With a little reading you can "control F" your way through an entire exam in under an hour or so, searching for the answers one by one.

If you only need 3 FEMA exams, SERIOUSLY, you can do that in 3 hours or less. WHen you submit the answers for each exam, I typically received an email response from FEMA within an hour or less telling me if I passed or failed. If you fail, go back right away and try to get a few more answers correct. I would mark on my print out which ones I KNEW were right and which ones I was unsure of. You can submit the answers as many times as you want.

Bottom line,....they have good information, kind of interesting actually, and they are super easy.
