Interesting New EdD Without a Dissertation Requirement
#1
I came across this EdD program today. It is in Community College Leadership. It is fairly new and has 3 other options instead of a normal research dissertation. It is a 3 yr cohort model, all online with a few on-site visits per year. It is expensive at $572 per credit hour, but the tuition is the same in-state or out-of-state. Just in case anyone is interested, given those that into teaching and those looking for a doctorate.

If I could find a way to finance this I would jump on it. Listen to me! Someone shoot me! I'm finally nearing the end and can almost see the light and I want dig myself into another 3 yr. deep hole! Someone please shoot me or at minimum slap me!!!

Thanks for sharing. I posted Texas A&M's Ed.D without a dissertation here a year or two ago. There were no responses to the thread. It probably would have gotten more interest on the other forum, but I wasn't a member at the time.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Thank you, but no thank you. LOL. However, I'll be cheering anyone on who does decide to do the program. The program does require a dissertation; it just gives students the option of completing different types of dissertations. Unless I'm getting a tuition waiver and a stipend, I am allergic to dissertations. All of the options probably take a similar amount of time and effort. I really can't afford anymore student loans; but, if I had to choose an online doctorate, it would most likely be the DPA from Valdosta which is super cheap and takes 15 masters credits in transfer IIRC. That program also gives the option of completing an evaluation project instead of a dissertation. I really wish I had the time and money for a first professional degree.

Sanantone, I'm right there with you. Unless I could get financial help and support from my employer, I just can't swing a doctoral program. I also won't do a disseration since I'm sick of writing and research isn't something I love to do enough to want to spend 3-5 years doing it! I'm very happy to have completed what I have over the last 4 years, because if you had asked me back then if would go any further than an AS degree I would have said "no way". For now I will just have to enjoy those accomplishments!

I'm located close enough to you to drive down east and slap you. But I couldn't do that. If you can finance it and tolerate the rigors and time requirements, you will have gone where few have gone before. Peterson's estimates 1% of the US population has a PhD. What's worse is the same article says 5 out of 6 students drop out of their PhD programs. That's a lot of money to burn. Ph.D. Programs Are Rigorous Educational Experiences

Do you really want me to board a plane and slap you Marianne? Because I will Missy. I will not be able to board the plane with my gun so I'll just have to slap you. LOL
