You have to be more flexible. If i had stopped everytime someone told me "you can't do that" I would only have half a dozen CC credits and a job saying "welcome to wal-mart". This is a nonsensical state regulation....change the paradigm. One avenue didn't work, chase one of the others you have been shown.
I wouldn't buy my books from the college anyway....far to expensive.
There is probably an education specialist affiliated within your husbands command, they should be able to help you find a workaround to Mass. BS rule (if it exists). I am not doubting what you were told....but in academia you regularly get many answers to simple question. Heck call EC, TESC, or COSC.....places known for flexibility in education.....and you can get several different answers to many questions.
Just keep knocking till you find an open door....its not easy......but not really that hard either.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Actually, it isn't just a state regulation. It is a federal one and one I have already spoken to the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education about:

http://www.career.org/iMISPublic/Content...011Rev.pdf
http://www.sheeo.org/stateauth/AgencyRes...cation.pdf
There currently is no work around at this moment (unless Rio Salado will allow me to use husbands work address)
We are not on a military base, we are a part of Recruiting and it is a whole different world. There are so many colleges around me, but their classes do not transfer over to the University of Alabama's Dietetic program for the prerequisites
I am not worried about cost of books or cost of class. Money isn't the issue

Out of curiosity (and because I can really sympathize with your frustrating course search), I took a peek at the accrediting body for Massachusetts for a list to work from. UoA will want regionally-accredited courses, so this is your most likely list of choices: Roster of Institutions - New England Association of Schools and Colleges: Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) If these below do not work, I did random clicking and checked only a few of them, so there may be others with a better tuition rate or course schedule. If you can get the list of approved states that have paid that ridiculous $40k, take a look at their accredited list of schools and see what else is out there.
Quincy College
Has all three, but I could not tell if they allow non-enrolled courses (but worst case, you could fill out an application, and once your courses are on a transcript, move to UoA). Their tuition rates are also between $170-200/credit depending on the enrollment program, and you would need to look into it or call them to find out what yours would qualify under. Also…if they’re strict about prerequisites, you’d be looking at a placement test and two semesters since CHE121 requires MAT103, and BIO106 has a course required in conjunction they may require.
• CHE121 General Chemistry I (prereq of MAT103 below, and requires CHE 131, a 1-credit lab)
• MAT103 College Algebra (prereq needed, but a placement test can take care of that)
• BIO106 Nutrition
If those do not work, try looking at…
Capital Community College
• MAT-F137 Intermediate Algebra: $397 for the 3-credit course. Pre-requisites needed, but a placement test can cover that.
North Shore Community College
• IDS 106-OL Understanding Nutrition: $162/credit. Prerequisite also, but they may not require proof. It’s an intro communications course.
Springfield Technical Community College
• ALGB-087 Algebra 1: $564.00 for 3-credit course
• BIOL-142 Nutrition: $564.00 for 3-credit course

Thanks Mrs.B!
I did request a list of schools that are authorized for distance education by Massachusetts and I was told that there wasn't one available because "we are still trying to figure out how best to create one" Apparently they have never heard of Excel or Word banghead Doesnt make any sense that they can dictate people living here that they can't attend some distance learning classes or programs, but can not provide such a list of schools to people either by web format or print
Will check the link out and find the prerequisites I need (hopefully) which are Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology. And hopefully I can find them without needing fifty million prerequistes for them. I was hoping to start college this Spring, but doesnt look like that is going to happen
If by any chance a list of authorized schools is ever made available to me from the Massachusetts Board of Education, I will post list here

I hope it helps. I've had to do a similar hunt with little help from the school I need to transfer courses into, but the accrediting agency for the region maintains a list that can give a starting point. You may have to pay a late enrollment fee, but you can still enroll in most schools for a January start date if you can find the courses you're looking for (they're out there, it will just take some hunting) It's not too late, so don't let the run-around get you down. Every one I clicked had some online courses. You'll find what you're looking for.
