Zebra cow and degreeguy, I believe you've got the acronyms/names backward here. If you want the version with discussion forums, you want OL, not GS.

For the Capstone, different story, discussion made up 15%, but a lot more required, citing references, responding, etc... But for SOS-110, easy way to get 100% of 12% for your grade. So you prefer GS for sos-110 and OL for capstone?
Personally, I prefer GS for both. Easy way to add 100% of either 12% or 15% to your total grade. The posts in 110 probably took me about 15-30 minutes each, so 12% of my grade in the matter 2-3 hours, not sure why anyone would pass that up.
For 421, it was more like an hour per post, so 11 hours for 15% of my grade. You can be the judge on how you want to use your time, but for 110 GS is a no brainer, imo.
To add to this, I think the times being quoted are extremely high or I am misunderstanding something. I would venture to say I spent less than 30 minutes total on all of the SOS-110 posts COMBINED. This includes the original post's you make and the required responses to two of the post's created by other students in the class.
As for the Capstone course, I have only participated in Discussion Forum 1 but again, I don't see where anything would have taken more than a few minutes and I wrote a fairly lengthy post on mine.

Not sure who your professor is, but I had Cruse. She wanted 2-3 references (sometimes more) for the discussion forum in 421. Between pulling a few references, writing, proofreading, responding to classmates, if you can do it at a fraction of my time, more power to you. I found all-in this was typically an hour long process to complete each discussion forum.

I guess I'm not sure what you're referring to on the 421? As for the SOS-110 there weren't any references needed on any of the forum posts and on the only one I've done for the LIB-495 Capstone there wasn't a need for reference either but looking further ahead I do not see where the forums require references either.
Maybe the classes were tweaked after you took them?
