I'm wondering, since one can force ALEKS to give assessments, can this be done every few sections so that each quiz covers only a few sections? Info retention when it comes to math is a problem for me. Will ALEKS allow you to do this or is there a limit to the number of times you can force a quiz?

I don't think you can get the assessment to only cover certain sections no matter how often you request a new assessment. Although the assessment does seem to start out by asking questions from topics you were recently studying, it soon moves off of those questions. I believe the way it works is that it will ask you a question and if you get it right it will ask you another question around the same level or harder. If you get a question wrong it will ask you a question that is a little easier. It also seems to pick a topic at a random level of difficulty if you get a few similar questions correct in a row. If you pass an assessment it doesn't mean that it won't ask you questions you already know on subsequent assessments. For example, in "Intro to Statistics" I passed an assessment where I was asked to calculate a standard deviation. On a subsequent assessment it asked me about standard deviations again, and this time I missed the question, actually I missed it twice, and it took it off my pie chart. By the way, if you take statistics you divide by n when calculating the s.d. for a population and you divide by n-1 when calculating a s.d. for a sample. Making me relearn the pie piece has burned this into my head.

Perhaps his question was a little different...he was asking if there's a LIMIT to the number of times you can quiz yourself. I'd say probably no. Keep in mind, you need 70% on the quiz to get credit. You can keep taking it as many times as you like (enable from the master account) if you feel prepared for it already.

Instead of ordering assessments (which as mentioned, are going to include everything anyway and not work the way you hope) as you go through, I HIGHLY SUGGEST printing out explanations. Keep these in a notebook, and ALEKS will issue an assessment every 3-4% anyway, so if you have your print-outs you can look back how to do each question. Assessments don't have to be done in one sitting either, so take your time. My son averaged 2 days on an assessment most times.
