If anyone decides to use Instant Cert's practice test for Anthropology, please use additional information as well. I took the General Anthropology Dantes exam yesterday, and the test consisted of information I had not seen using the practice exam on this site. About 60% of the questions on the Dantes exam was not available in the practice exam information. I have taken two other Dantes exams only using Instant Cert and have passed. Unfortunately, this time I was unsuccessful. So, please look for alternative information in addition to Instant Cert.

Thanks for the info...I'm taking Anthro on Wed.
I've studied IC, plus the terms, people and theories from the specific feedback section as well as a the flashcards from the Palomar College anthro tutorial (
Anthropology Tutorials Menu)
Hopefully this will be sufficient. I haven't studied for any exams yet, so I'm not sure how deep to go.

A good printed text for this test is Anthropology for Dummies; it covers about 90% of what was on the version of the test I took last month.

I used the REA guide- it was a small and cheap book.

Has anyone usd the Rudman's Questions and Answers review book for the General Anthropology test? I have been thumbing through it and I'm wondering if the actual test is going to be as specific as this review book!
I saw in some previous posts that some people only took a few days to prepare for this test and passed, so I wonder how in-depth the questions can possibly be!
I already have a Bachelor's degree but I'm trying to place out of some requirements before enrolling in another program.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I completely agree with this posting. I took the Anthropology today and scored 64. In addition to studying with InstaCert, I also studied the textbook, "Cultural Anthropology, An Applied Perspective," by Gary Ferraro. I also did web research to broaden my knowledge of the prominent theorists in the field.
I found that one area that I could have been better prepared for were the series of questions about early man and other primates. I was a little weak in physical anthropology. Where was the first homo erectus found? was one I remember.
The posting on this site about specific areas covered by the test was extremely helpful, although the tests are obviously randomized so not every taker will have exactly the same test.
I knew what a ziggurat was but was a little shaky on where they were used.
Also, know your lineage.
I think anyone who makes a serious effort to prepare for this test will pass it but it requires some study beyond Instacert -- or it did for me, at least.
Good luck - and thanks to all who posted on this exam before I took my test.

Respectfully, I disagree. To use IC only and fail means you need to study beyond IC. If
everyone here were using IC and failing, then there is a problem wiht IC.... But, to use IC and pass DOES means that IC is, in fact, enough.
