Can you help me with my general ed?
#1
Im majoring in computer science. These are the classes I have so far from my local community college.: Music Theory , Intro to Astronomy, Elementary Algebra, Biological Anthropology, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Introductory Physics, Introductory Chemistry, Plane Trigonometry and Precalculus. Also how do credits transfer if the course Im transferring has more credits than TESU. At my local cc, I got 4 credits for precalculus but at TESU its only 3 credits.

What degree do you want? Different degrees have slightly different general ed requirements. However, you have more than 8 CC courses (more than 24 RA credit) so you should be DONE with those (pending what degree you want).

Go to https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...live-again and sign up for Sophia before the end of December. You will use Sophia to round out most of the rest of your general education requirements in accordance with the roadmap here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sa...ts_Roadmap

The only gen ed requirement that TESU has and that Sophia does not offer is American Government. You can get that cheaply through InstantCert for $45.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Good news: comp sci has a total of 40 electives (some degrees have far fewer and might not be able to fit everything). As I understand it, your credits will likely fall something like this:

Quantitative Literacy: College Algebra
Knowledge of Human Cultures: Music Theory
Understanding the Physical & Natural World: If any of your science classes included a lab, it goes here. Otherwise, 2 science classes.
GE electives: Everything else.

I would certainly apply to TESU and send in your transcript ASAP to confirm this and get your catalog locked in.

Courses usually transfer in for as many credits as they were at the original institution, assuming that the original institution also used semester hours and not quarter hours.

Mostly Sophia credits:

A. Intellectual and Practical Skills
English Composition I (written comm)
English Composition II (written comm)
Public Speaking (oral communication)

B. Civic and Global Learning
Introduction to Sociology (Diversity)
Introduction to Ethics (ethics)

For Civic Engagement you can take American Govt. @ Instantcert

C. Knowledge of Human Cultures
Pick 3 courses from Humanities or Social Science
https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/So...lency_List

D. Understanding the Physical and Natural World
You don't need any more courses
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience:  CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management

So i have to take the liberal arts capstone, SOS-110: Critical Information Literacy and 4 more classes at TESU to meet the residency requirement?

It depends on what your goal is. You just need 30 total RA credits to be able to get the degree. You have 10 classes listed; including the capstone and cornerstone, you'll have way more than the 30 that are needed. You can finish off your gen eds with Sophia and InstantCert.com.

The residency requirement is something entirely separate. If you want to avoid paying the residency waiver fee, you do need to take a total of 16+ credits from TESU itself. It is not necessary to do this. If you do decide that you want to avoid the residency waiver, I suggest taking an upper-level CS course or two and not your general eds. The Network Technology TECEP is supposedly pretty difficult and you might as well avoid it if you can.

Oh I thought all students are required to fulfill the residency requirements. As long as I have at least 30 credits form my local cc i dont? Im also gna take Calc 1, assembly language, web dev , and mobile dev from my cc. Ima do intro to computing systems an compiler constriction through PLA. The AOS with SDC and the general ed with sophia.

There are two separate requirements that can get a bit confusing:
30 total RA credits; 6 need to come from the capstone/cornerstone which leaves 24 unaccounted for. These 24 can come from ANY source. This is the bare minimum needed for a degree.

Residency requirements: These are credits that would need to come directly from TESU. You would need to take 16 or more credits at TESU itself to meet residency requirements. If you just want to get your degree and be done, you can pay TESU $3192 ( https://www.tesu.edu/tuition/fees ) and skip the residency requirements, bringing in credits from wherever.

PLA is not really recommended unless you're bringing in a LOT of credits because of the high cost (both time and money) involved. SDC is significantly cheaper and less work.

LOL im confused.

Ya im aware of that, but i want those courses on my transcript. I want to get into Georgia techs OMSCS computing systems specialization and i feel those 2 courses will help me get in over the ones provided at SDC.
