What is the operating system that is :eek:free:eek:? I heard that some people somewhere developed their own type of OS because they didn't like how Microsoft was monopolizing things. (Or something like that) Don't want to run it but I was just wondering!

That would be the various Linux operating systems, Nick.
I've heard good things about Ubuntu, and may try it once I acquire a laptop with vista on it...

Linux is one, they also developed various free reactions to the windows 9x systems. ReactOS was one. None of them really took off like one would expect.
Linux Joke: Linux is like a wigwam: no gates, no windows and Apache inside.
Windows joke: Failure is not an option -- it comes bundled with Windows.

For someone that lives off PC's you don't really like the OS's!

Not an uncommon sentiment, I assure you.

Has anyone tried the new Windows 7 operating system? Is it better than XP and Vista?

Exactly. Macs are easy for people like me, that don't know enough about computers and the lingo involved in order to run PCs successfully. The language and layout of PC is so confusing to me. Macs lay it out pure and simple; I don't have to know all the fancy stuff.
While it appears to
me that Macs run WAY better (like, incomparably so) than PCs, it may be that I just don't know what I'm doing.
Thus, it all comes down to your knowledge and preference. Me? I need a clean, simple computer to use the internet, write documents, and store photos and other information. That's it. I <3 my MacBook.

I haven't gotten it yet, but hopefully will soon...
I have an xp and i love it. I used to have a vista, but it drove me nuts. it didn't do all the great things that the xp and even 98 did and it was so hard to figure out. so yeah, windows 7 sure had better be better than vista

I think windows 7 is ugly compared to Vista. It seems to work OK though!
I was running it briefly on a 900mhz computer with no problem. For this I give major props to Microsoft.
I love windows XP and wouldn't be able to say if 7 is better without using it for a more substantial amount of time. But this is for sure lightweight = good.
I love windows 2000 even more except for the missing .msc modules. It makes my life a little more tricky.
