IBM Data Science Professional Certificate Course equivalencies

I wanted Data Science myself, but decided it wasn't worth it. Comp Sci with some Data Science courses should be fine, IMO. Others might feel differently.

For my purposes, I'm a federal employee already working on data, but I can't qualify for the basic education requirement for the new data scientist series.  A CS degree fills that requirement just as well as DS would, so I agree in this regard (as far as my situation).  I also plan on going on to a masters in DS, so I'm not too worried.  The bachelors is just to try to get there quickly and be eligible for jobs.

It seems though that about the only value to the IBMs is to add on a AS Computer Science with very little work. The Google Data Analysis courses rounded out a AS Computer Science very nicely for me with no extra work. Since the AS Computer Science does not have a separate capstone, I'll have it added to my degree plan and pick that up in June when I graduate.

If folks do the "what if" do the IBMs round out an AS CS?

Three database courses from SDC weren't considered for SQL

Python was the only credit accepted. I didn't do R yet.

Still debating whether the $5500+ (Statistics.com) + $3200 (TESU) is worth it.

PUG's BS in Analytics ExcelTrack could be cheaper if you transfer in the right courses.

I get the SQL and Python credits for the AS as well as the BA.  DSI courses don't slot in as anything for me with any degree plan (I also have a lot of RA, but I don't think this is crowding anything out, because my gen-ed is lacking 2hrs of science because I have 3 RA science courses in my additional AOS.  Apparently some of the other IBM certs do more.  I guess the Data Science Pro isn't too worthwhile.

Updates on two closely related certs. Data Science Fundamentals with Python and SQL: ITS-130 Database Fundamentals (3hr), COS-205 Python programming (3hr), DSI-199 Topics in DS(2hrs).  Intro to Data Science Specialization: DSI-199 Special Topics in Data Science/Analytics (6hr).

Fullstack Engineering update:

Seems to have duplicated some of the previous courses, but gave in addition CLD-110 Intro to Cloud Computing 3.00 and CLD-420 Archtctng Cloud Solution 3.00. The cloud classes fill reqs on the cloud degree, but perhaps more importantly CLD-420 works as an UL elective for comp sci in Group G (i.e. comp sci related electives).

Between this and the SAS course granting STA-399 Special Topics in Statistics, which falls into Group H (Add'l AOS electives from Nat Sci), that is two AOS UL classes/6 UL credits. I am not graduating the comp sci evaluation but this result may be useful for others.

Still waiting on AWIT as to whether they will apply to be an approved provider.
Deep Learning AI are also not on the Thomas Edison State University Approved Educational Provider List. They have been invited to join. If they do, credit will be awarded.
IBM are an TESU approved educational provider, but the Data Engineering Professional Certificate course hasn't been assessed before. TESU said it could take a few weeks.

The Full Stack is also about data - specifically about interacting with data hosted in the cloud, storing dating, interacting with data via API's etc, and creating the apps to interact with the data. I presumed it would be about the coding type of software development at the outset based on the name but was pleasantly surprised. It integrates v well with the Data Engineering one, I did them at the same time.

The best options for those with the Coursera/TADA are the Google/IBM offerings, I would recommend the other offerings as well - If you're just looking to get ACE credit and may not be transferring them to TESU. It may transfer elsewhere such as Excelsior, people who are transferring these tickets need to update the threads so we can revise the WIKI...

Still waiting on the IBM Data Engineering evaluation at TESU. Its been weeks so I hope they hurry up, since IBM is already an approved provider.

AWIT is not an approved provider and per the transcript update they have not applied to be. At this point, I think it is clear they don't plan to apply - they were invited to do so almost two months ago now. I am not sure what the purpose of gaining ACE recommendations for their course was, if they are not willing to then work with the most transfer-friendly colleges to facilitate their credits being put to use.

In the meantime: DeepLearning.AI applied and were approved. The result evaluation by TESU has little to do with the ACE recommendation though, essentially rendering that certificate useless:

COS-299 Special Topics in Computer Sci 6.00

The content of that certificate makes this evaluation sort of laughable. It was 20 times more in-depth and complex than any of the IBM ones, and at a much higher level. Some of the modules used linear algebra and matrix algebra to prove estimator convergence.

Honestly, given the ACE recommendations were machine learning specific, I strongly suspect this is because TESU has some sort of "credit fixing" agreement with Statistics.com whereby those course codes/classes are reserved for Statistics.com transfers only. This is secondarily based on the fact I have an UL econometrics regression class that got "special topic'd" which should also have fit in the Data Science plan.
