I'm full of BS and now I need even more -- Or where to find a stats course.
#1
Hi, I'm new here and am fascinated with the wealth of knowledge that's available here.

One would think that a guy that has a BS/Chem and a B/S in Safety studies and an Assoc Degree in Nursing would have enough, but no, my employer says that all RN's must have a BSN (BS-nursing) so back I must go for more BS. I liked the idea of WGU and yesterday came very close to plunking down my $3742 (nursing has many extra fees). But they would not guarantee a 7/1 start and if they shunted me to the next month my employer's contribution would be lost (for 2015), so I backed out. I'll likely schedule their RN > BSN next year. In the meantime I'd like to whittle down transferable pre-reqs with the hope that I can finish my BSN in 6 months or less (1 semester for WGU and only 1 payment).

Even though my degrees are 10, and 22 years old they did accept quite a lot. I'm left to do sociology, anthropology, biochemistry and statistics. StraigterLine has a good looking soc and anthropology course so I'll take them this summer. But SL has no biochem and it appears that the stats course they offer will not transfer.

Does anyone know of a good stats course and/or a biochemistry course. Neither should be a high-level course, both should be an intro to sort of course.

Thanks all.

If WGU accepts ALEKS math, it is $20 per month at your own pace (plus the cost of the ACE transcript). See if they accept ALEKs statistics. Also there is DSST Statistics, I took that and it wasn't overly difficult. Finally, there is statistics.com, which has ACE approved credit.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

This covers alternative sources for some of the courses you need.

Alternative Sources, Specific Requirements for B.S. Nursing (Prelicensure)

They accept a variety of sources for stats for other degree programs. I don't know if they'll allow these for the BSN.

Alternative Sources, Quantitative Literacy

University of New England and I think UC Berkeley Extension offer biochemistry. They're not cheap.

jsflynn603,

Straighterline Business Statistics worked for me. You need Sociology OR Anthropology not both. I fulfilled the requirement with CLEP Sociology. I start the RN-BSN July 1st with only the 10 core nursing courses and Biochemistry to complete. After doing some research on Allnurses, I decided that my best option for Biochem is at WGU.
CLEP: Principles of Management (70), Info Systems and Computer Applications (61), Principles of Marketing (66), American Government (52), Analyzing and Interpreting Literature (56), Introductory Sociology (69), Introductory Psychology (69), Introduction to Educational Psychology (68), Human Growth and Development (68) DSST: Drug and Alcohol Abuse (60), Here's to Your Health (455), Introduction to World Religions (469), Management Information Systems (415), Ethics in America (443), Criminal Justice (434) ECE: Abnormal Psychology (B), Organizational Behavior (B) STRAIGHTERLINE: Business Statistics, Medical Terminology

There aren't many nurses here. At allnurses.com, you'll find more nurses there who have been in your situation than the total size of this community.

There is a DSST statistics exam you can take, but it has to be acceptable to the school that would grant you credit.
63 CLEP Sociology
75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I
77 CLEP College Mathematics
470 DSST Statistics
53 CLEP College Composition
73 CLEP Biology
54 CLEP Chemistry
77 CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications

Thank you all, excellent answers.

Btw, I do frequently post on allnurses.com but frankly you guys seem to know more about what's up than allnurses does.

Interesting that I only need Soc or Anthro... I'll have to look into that, I wonder which is easier/more fun....?

There may be more nurses at Allnurses but being familiar with posts there under WGU and others, there are many great answers here.

Going to finish the BSN in one semester? Great advice on the soc or anthro!

If OP already has two Bachelor's degrees, will WGU let him get a third bachelors with a BSN? Or am I missing something?

WGU did accept my ALEKS statistics but I was going for a teaching masters not nursing. with 2 bachelors would it be cost and time saving to go for an MSN?
