Congrats! I hope this will work for the english degree as well, I have 2 computer classes there and I guess I will use beginning algebra - which I just finished - and intermediate algebra to finish off that section. I just got a 39% on my initial assessment :ack: I'm in for a bit of work...
edit:
also, how are the statistics courses? I don't have such a background in stats - is it generally harder than intermediate algebra? Or just different? And can I use any stats for TESC math requirement?

December '09 and January '10 were the months I spent in ALEKS hell. :ack: You have my sympathies. Even so, it is the best way to get through math IMO though it'll frazzle your nerves in the process. Keep plugging away, you can do it! Just to give you an idea of where I started at: my first assessment in Beginning Algebra was something like 14%! It took awhile, working everyday in fact, but I eventually reached 70%.

I'm guessing that it would be harder but I hate math and never took it so couldn't tell you for sure. As for it fulfilling the TESC math requirement, I don't see why not but since I haven't taken it I can't say for sure.
Good luck!

I had another aleks question. I just took an assessment, and it really seemed like I got almost every single question right, but i only 53% on it. Is there any way I can see which questions I got wrong and how? If I only got them wrong because of silly mistakes, I can take another assessment.

If I remember right, when you click on the asessment it will tell you which sections you got right or wrong, but not the specific question.
This is just my own personal theory and I could be wrong, but I think your percantage on the assesment is not determined by the percentage of how many questions you got right out of total questions you were asked, but what percentage of topics you showed mastery of. This is just what it seemed like to me.
Yeah, it does seem like that. I really think I got every question right...Maybe I missed one question and they decided based on that that I am missing 40+%? I don't understand how it works, bah...
Hello again fellas! Quick ALEKS question. If one were to take an ALEKS course that duplicates at TESC with another ALEKS course that was also complete would there be credit issued for only one class or would one of the duplicating classes be considered an elective? I'm sorry if this has been covered but this is a BIG thread. Thanks!

No, the duplicates do not count as electives. They go down into the other category and are listed as DUPL = you do not receive credit. So unless you need the course for later studies (MS) my advice would be, why waste your time; get started on something else.

Ok, I've been reading the posts for ALEKS and I agree that I hate it too. I've been plugging away at it and I'm slowly creeping along (urgh!). I've attached my assessment profile where you can see my painfully slow and gradual progress. My question for any ALEKS users--on my assessment chart, do I have to score a 70% on any given assessment or do I have to reach 70% on my assessment chart. Currently, I'm at 55% and I'm growing very tired of taking the assessments, which I found out it's a combo of pre-, intermed and college alegbra. My hope was to finish this course and submit my paperwork to TESC before 7/1 for Oct. graduation. Please someone give me some hope that I will see a light at the end of the tunnel. If I have to score a 70% on an assessment, I will be doing ALEKS for the next 2 months (or more) and I really don't have that kind of time. Also, how would you know that you're finished? The assessment doesn't provide any feedback as to which questions were right or wrong. From time to time, I get an auto-email from ALEKS about the % of what I've mastered, but I wasn't sure. Please help.

Yes, the blue part that is now at 55% has to be at 70%. Since you are talking about feedback for right or wrong questions and I see the frequency of your assessment requests I am not sure you understand the way ALEKS works. If you don't know the material continually doing the assessment isn't going to get you anywhere. If you use ALEKS as designed (not doing the assessments) it will show you step by step how to do the problems that you don't know how to do them. It will give you feedback on what was done wrong or right. Once you go through it a couple of days and learn the work, you can request another assessment and then get those problems right on the assessment. Of course actually learning the material will take time but banging your head against the wall trying to get questions right that you don't know is going to be a never ending battle.
