You'll work with your advisor when it comes to class selection. Same thing with your electives. Depending on which degree program you're in and how many more electives you need, you may have to fulfill UL requirements which they will help with. There are a few classes that have prereqs so you have to complete them first. Some courses are sequential like BUS400 & BUS401. Last time I spoke with my advisor (in the spring) those 2 courses were not available every session as they rotate, but most every other class is now available every session.

Okay, got it! Yeah I am doing the BLS Management Concentration. I think it was 30 UL credits that are needing to be completed but I am not 100% Sure. I know it was something like 18 credits for the core business minor. I think 6 of those credits I already have from Sophia like Business Communication and Project Management. So I just have the 12 left in that. I was going to complete them with UMPI since I have to have 30 credits with them anyway. I was going to get my art through them for another 3, my English 2 through them. that would be 18 and a few other courses I think. I will wait until I get my eval in a few weeks. Are they pretty fast at updating evals? I know you said 2-3 weeks for them to do it. If I sent another transcript, do you think it will take another 2-3 weeks. Like if I take a course or 2 with Study.com or like how I am doing another class with sophia. That would suck if it took 3 weeks each time you submit a transcript lol.

I sent all of my transcripts at once. I would probably wait to send more until after you have received your initial transcript evaluation and your degree audit. This way you will already have a line of communication open with your academic advisor. You'll be able to email them to let them know more transcripts are on the way. They will be able to let you know how long it will take to be processed. I don't think it takes as long once you're student. It's that initial application process that takes the longest.

@learningthehardway, if you're going for the BLS, you need 6 courses for the Minor, 8 UL courses outside the minor, 13 specific general education courses (1 being a lab science), and there are about 60 credits (20 courses) of "free electives" that can be anything you want. Just make sure to verify you have at least 30 credits (10 courses) you're doing at UMPI and there are 24 UL (8 courses) outside the minor.

Okay got it. For some reason, I thought it was 30 total UL credits. I am sure my math was bad somewhere. Thanks for the info! I am sure I have all the electives if they take in all 91 of my credits lol. It is the 10 classes with them, minor classes, and the UL stuff I would have to knock out.

Great thanks! I will just hold on to them. I know Sophia will probably be sent over 2 or 3 more classes especially if they offer Spanish like I've been hearing lol.

Spanish on Sophia is not less work than the UMPI course. It's actually more work. InstantCert is the easiest and fastest way to complete it. No essays and no oral.

I paid the 20 for instantcert and requested a refund that night after trying to understand what the heck was going on. lol. I am almost finish with sophias quizzes. The touchstones don't seem too bad. Figured 4 or 5 100 page essays are about the same as 1 500 page essay.

It all depends on the person, again, I think if you're already on Sophia.org and have the energy/time to complete the courses, it may be better in the long run. Having said that, I highly recommend InstantCertCredit for their courses especially the Spanish I course, as it was the cheap/easy and fast alternative to StraighterLine or Study.com Spanish I...

It's not a 500 page essay. It's a 500 word essay. Much of which you will complete in the Milestones so you don't have to write the entire essay. The oral component was about a minute long at UMPI. I finished the course in a week at UMPI. The Touchstones will take time to be graded. If it's like the other courses, this will hold students up because you can't submit the net Touchstone until the first one is graded. Some courses have been taking a week or more to be graded lately. That would make this a long slow course. Many people complete Spanish on InstantCert in under a week. I'm not saying don't try Sophia. But know that it may be long and slow. We also don't know yet if UMPI will accept this course as Spanish 1. So that is something to keep in mind.

With Sophia Spanish, two of the five Touchstones do require the previous touchstone to be graded before you submit it. Touchstones 1, 3, and 4 can be submitted immediately after finishing the relevant unit.

That is different! I never understood why all of the Touchstones couldn't be submitted faster in Sophia. Having to wait really slowed down competing the courses. Maybe it's so they make more $$.
