I've heard it so many times over the years that it's hard to remember... However I believe I first read about CLEP (and similar programs) due to looking into Excelsior College. The only reason I even looked into Excelsior at the time was because of exactly what you said below, though in my case it was the fact that they took IT Certifications for College Credit. What amazes me is that there are also some graduate programs that will take certifications for college credit. My one MCSE could count for not only many undergrad credits but as much as half of a graduate degree (25% of a degree at

Hrm thats interesting, I never thought about that. I have my MCSD and about 10 other IT certifications. I wonder how much credit I could get for the MCSD. Thanks for the heads up, though!

Via the second link, about half if you go with the development degree. Though they're moving away from MCSD and towards the new development structure MS came out with.
As for undergrad you could check the below link vs. your specific tests:

Whoa.
Rob, I had NO idea you could get a masters with IT cert. I have my MCSD.NET among others and I just sent in a request for more information from them. That just blows me away! Thanks for the info.
I'm just kinda thinking out loud here (figuratively) but I wonder how much weight an Austrialian masters degree carries?

I took my first CLEP examination in 1985 covering German while stationed in Germany. The exam was paper-based, and wasn't difficult because of everyday usage. I scored a 58. Since then, three colleges granted me between 12-16 semester hours of credit. Incidentally, after the introduction of computer-based exams, scoring metrics for foreign language CLEPs changed. Some schools differentiate between the old and new exams while others do not.
Joshua Graham's
web site led me to InstantCert. My bachelors degree required one upper-level course or CLEP exam for completion, and a lucrative job offer hung in the balance. I can't thank both parties enough.

Neat story, justintime. And yes, I've seen Josh G's site--hopefully it's helping a lot of people out.

I had taken an English CLEP a long time ago in the Army...not the Essay one so it hasn't really helped me much. I was unaware that civilians could take DANTES tests until recently an academic advisor told me it was allowable. I hope to use a mix of traditional butt-in-the-chair courses along with CLEP/DSST and maybe some online/correspondence classes to complete my undergrad degree. Trying to map it all out right now.
