How do you decide ?
#1
Wow! What a wealth of information on this site. How did everyone decide on a school and what degree plan to pursue ? I look at my transcript and am lost on what direction to go to figure out the fastest route. With my classes im thinking its something with business or marketing, any help would be great. Thank you!

I think the easiest way to narrow down your options is to ask yourself what your real goals are. There are better paths for cheapest/paying out of pocket, better paths for fastest/testing, better paths for transferring in military/industry/IT credits and certs, and better paths for someone mid-career vs someone launching a career. It all boils down to what you want and need.

Since all of your courses are pretty standard lower level credits they will probably all transfer similar no matter which institution you choose.

Thanks for the fast responses, your right! I have an assortment of Military credits that always seem to fit in for electives. I would probably go down the faster/test out route, due to gained points on the my advancment test. Again, Thanks for the fast responses.... just looking for a little more direction is all.

A good first step, if the cost isn't an issue, is to apply to all of the big three and see how your credits are transcribed. Then post here and everyone can provide feedback on the degree options you have.

Great point. I can start the process, I suppose that it seems like a cost that can be avoided though.

If the application fee is not possible, we can certainly guess, but I would view the initial application fee as an investment.

I did not follow this advise (despite it appearing in many posts). I guessed, and started at Excelsior. I paid for a full year with the multi-source option....only to find even with that sunk cost it was cheaper for me to switch to TESC due to the UL options I needed for my major. I'm still very happy with what I've paid for my degree, but this has definitely been one of the lessons I've learned the hard way in this process.

Are you active military? If so, this may provide additional cost savings.

I ended up at Charter Oak primarily because they were the most helpful -- they were the only ones willing to advise me before I formally applied, and the path was so clear I decided to just jump in, especially since it was so much faster than any conventional degree completion program would have been. (I'm aware, though, that this doesn't mean they're the best choice for everyone.)
BS, Information Systems concentration, Charter Oak State College
MA in Educational Technology Leadership, George Washington University
18 doctoral level semester-hours in Business Administration, Baker College
In progress: EdD in Educational Leadership, Manhattanville College

I am active duty, It should help with any "actual" classes I have to take.

What is your ultimate goal besides a degree? What career do you want to have? I knew mine was in business so I narrowed down the business degrees. I then sent my transcripts to the big 3. They were all basicially the same so I had to figure out the best fit for me and my situation. Once you figure out your degree path, the individuals on this forum can help you place the credits you have and give you some scenarios.

Good luck!
