Honor Society Scam
#1
Get a load of this...I received a congratulatory acceptance email to this alleged honor society (http://honorsociety.org). It said it was from the Thomas A Edison State College (first giveaway!) HonorSociety.org Network. They go on to claim they're the "preeminent organization dedicated to the recognition of student success."

Here's their list of benefits if you pay $50 for a six month membership:
Exclusive scholarship listings.
Free test prep.
Free access to Career Insider guide books and tools by Vault.com (up to $1,000 Value).
Dental, Vision and Hearing Health Discount Plans valid at 200,000 access points nationwide.
Priority admissions and waived application fee to global internship programs.
HonorSociety.org regalia - honor cords & tassels.
Dining discounts at 18,000 restaurants nationwide.

Makes me laugh because everything they promise is such a joke; firstly, because it's all based on my "academic achievements" of which they know nothing, and on my connection to tesC, which connection is nonexistent!

I'm just glad they have this little disclaimer in their terms of use because it make them a little bit more honorable Wink

SHSU warns students of HonorSociety.org | The Houstonian This article says they're not technically a scam, but for all intents and purposes, they sure seem to be operating like one!

Especially because the name of the school is Thomas Edison State University - there is no "A" in the school name. I consider all of these types of things scams, whether it's official or not.

Thanks for sharing.

We went to Little Rock, AR for Thanksgiving. Our hotel had a zillion tv channels, but one of them had a commercial for Thomas Edison State COLLEGE. It was something to do with a military partnership. I wasn't watching- so when I "heard" it from the other room I ran in and it was essentially over. They had the clock tower logo in the commercial- that I saw. Missed the contact info. Made me more than a little suspicious!

Those commercials have been running for a while, since the name change of the school.

I only watch tv when I'm in hotels, which isn't too often. I'm kinda yucky about attending a college that runs commercials.

I'm confused, so is it a different school aping TESU, or have they just not updated their commercial to reflect the name change?

No, it's the same school. The commercial's have been running since about late last year, when the school was still TESC. I mentioned it before on here to Sanatone when we were discussing the Big 3 and PR. She was stating how she seen a lot of EC Google ads, when I mentioned to her that TESC/TESU were running commercials here in Florida. COSC also used to run commercials, although I haven't seen one from them in a while.

The University of Tennessee has commercials.

If you flip through sports channels, there are a lot of ads for colleges and universities.
