Help with planning BLS degree

Thanks, Rachel. I will consult with Jessica when she returns to UMPI on November 20. One more quick question. I do not have any math, although I plan to take algebra from Sophia. Do I also need statistics to meet the GEC for a BLS/Education Studies? I have to admit my fear of math has kept me from completing my degree decades ago!

Sophia.org/Study.com classes are 'slimmed down' versions of college classes, it'll be easier to complete than you think, you just need to put the energy/time into completing the requirements. These classes including the CSM Learn and other options available are geared towards working adults that don't have much time to complete. Don't be afraid of the course, get the hang of Sophia.org dashboard and features with the classes without touchstones first, then go for the classes you need for the remainder of your degree.

You do not! For the BLS degrees, all you need is one math. Sophia's Algebra is really easy. You could even take Intro to College Math from Sophia and be done with it.

I would note that if "years ago" means when you were in High School or in your early twenties, don't automatically give up on it. Many returning adults find that they are much better students than they were when they were younger. I encourage you to approach your math courses like any other subject, assuming that if you spend the proper amount of study time, you will master the material.

Thank you, Dave! Yes, that is exactly what I meant. I've always joked that's how I maintained a 4.0 GPA in college. By avoiding algebra. Wink

Generally speaking, for us math challenged students, which Sophia.org math class is easier? Intro to Math or Algebra? I just need one.

Introduction to College Mathematics is the easiest Sophia class you can take that will meet math requirements at UMPI.

That's right, but you really need to see what budget, energy, time, and what future learning you're looking at. I would shoot for that class, and if you have the extra time to do College Algebra, plus Stats, having it in the completed list would work wonders just in case you're going for something in the future that may require those.
