Help with degree plan - Bachelors in Business at Excelsior
#41
OP, it sounds like it may be time for you to go ahead and apply to Excelsior. That way you can send in your transcripts, and access academic advising. Then when you find a test you'd like to know about, you can simply ask them how it would transfer.
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

We do have another call coming up soon and we will talk about that. He has helped me switch out a few tests already. I'm just trying to get a second opinion to be safe.

Anyway, thank you very much everyone for all of your help. Now I am kind of considering TESU but I'm still really not sure. I found this interesting comparison this morning
http://colleges.startclass.com/compare/2...or-College They do seem pretty similar but I'm really just trying to figure out which one will look better on a resume.

I suppose I will work on Ethics DSST, Macro CLEP and Micro CLEP in the meantime because it seems like those will transfer pretty well either way. And I will probably start on the ALEKS math too. Thanks for the info on the correct order of that!

I have been using that excelsior degree requirement page for a while now and it's super helpful so I am trying to find the TESU equivalent. I know for Excelsior you can only do general business if you are trying to test out only. Is the same true for TESU or can you have a focus and still transfer all 120 credits?

Thanks again everyone

I thought that Thomas Edison doesn't require a capstone but here it says otherwise
BSBA in General Management Degree Program

Am I looking at the wrong degree? Or did this change recently?
Not needing a capstone class would definitely be somewhat of a deciding factor for me.

Thanks

The BSBA capstone can be tested out of via the Strategic Management TECEP.

BA degrees require the full liberal arts capstone course and can not be tested out of.

If you post your credits here, we could actually give you a degree plan for free (I can do a quick TESU one). There are some BSBA degrees that you can find courses/exams for (I'm going HR myself, Accounting is doable, Marketing, Finance has 5 out of 6 courses). It just depends on what you're interested in, and what you've already taken.

Post your credits and I can help you.

Okay great! I would really love to do Operations Management if that is possible to completely test out of but if not then something else would be fine. BSBA in Operations Management Degree Program
All of my current credits are posted on the first page of this forum, 3rd post down. Let me know if you have any questions on them.

Ok, so in looking at the courses you're interested in, I think you haven't spent a lot of time looking at TESU's Ops Management degree. I've only marked which courses you could use in the plan. You already have a lot of your Gen Eds, and only need a few more. You have a LOT of courses listed below, but only enough space for a few. It would take a long time to tell you which ones won't work. You really just need a complete plan.

You also seem to only be looking at CLEP, DSST & UExcel, which makes me think that Jay is a complete doofus who has never heard of ALEKS, Saylor, Shmoop, Straighterline, Study.com, Tor, CSU-Global, or Penn Foster. He really is not worth the money you've paid him, if he's trying to get you a complete degree without making you aware of all of these AWESOME (and some very inexpensive) resources. Seriously, you need a refund. He's a complete waste of your time and money. I cannot stress this enough.

You might want to take a look at the Beginners Guide and see how this would help you more than Jay can do it. There are plans available there for free as well. Start back at the beginning of the post and work your way through. http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...llege.html

KayV Wrote:Organizational Behavior UXCEL - 3 - this will come in as PSY in Gen Ed since you can't use it for Ops Mgmt AOS (it can be used in the Gen Mgmt AOS)
Human Recourse Management UEXCEL - 3 - This can't be used in Ops Mgmt AOS, so it's a Free Elective (it can be used in the Gen Mgmt AOS)

and

And here is a list of some tests that look easy/interesting to me that I would like to take if they could fit in to my plan -
CLEP:
Intro to Educational Psychology
Analyzing and Interpreting Literature - you can use this as your Info Lit Requirement
Human Growth and Development
Humanities
Social Sciences and History
Natural Sciences - this will fulfill your second science requirement and throw extra credits to Gen Ed
American Literature
English Literature

DSST:
Principles of Supervision
Fundamentals of Counseling
Introduction to Business
Lifespan Development Psychology
Intro to Law Enforcement
Foundations of Education
Introduction to World Religions - you can use this as your Info Lit Requirement
Astronomy
Criminal Justice - Upper Level?
Principles of Public Speaking - take this
Here's to Your Health - UL
Business Ethics and Society - UL
Management and Info Systems - UL - can't use for Ops Managment

UEXCEL (business courses) :
Business Ethics - you need Ethics, but there's a free course available
Labor Relations - can't use for Ops Managment
Management - duplicates the CLEP which you already took
Marketing - duplicates the CLEP which you already took
Workplace Communications with computers - can't use for Ops Managment

TECP (business) :
Business in Society - take this
Strategic Management - required for the degree
Managerial Communications - required for the degree, but cheaper ways to get it
Marketing Communications - can't use for Ops Managment
Advertising - can't use for Ops Managment

Thanks so much for that information. I have heard of those other ones and I will be doing my math through Aleks but I really want to do as much as possible through CLEP and DSST because I much prefer pass or fail to graded. Straighterline would probably kill my high GPA if I took many courses through them because I'm trying to go so fast.
I read through that other forum for a while but I really don't trust myself at all to make my own plan. I'm too afraid that I would end up taking things that I don't need. I think I will start with the classes that you gave the okay on above and apply to TECU right away while I work on those. Then I'll have an adviser help me pick the rest. Thanks again for all of your help.

Almost everything in ACE is also Pass/Fail. SL, Saylor, ALEKS, Shmoop, Insurance Ethics, NFA, TECEP, JumpCourse, Study.com, TorCollegeCredits - none give grades. They may show you a % correct so that you know if you passed for failed the course/exam, but that is not reported on your ACE transcript. Again, if Jay is not telling you this, he's an idiot.

Also, an Advisor at TESU will definitely not help you choosing courses/exams. They can answer a direct question (what is the course equivalency for this exam and will it fit here?) but they will not tell you "You can go take test XYZ and it will fit into this space." They are there to help make money for the college, and you're trying to test out is not doing that. Plus, they are clueless.

We can help you on here create a degree plan for free. I'm leaving for the weekend, but if you send me a PM, I will help you next week.
