(This post was last modified: 12-07-2022, 07:16 PM by joshua27.)
I'm currently in my 40s and would like to finish my bachelors with intentions of moving on to my MBA afterwards. I am a working professional who has been employed with the same corporation for the last almost 20 years. I work as a procurement officer negotiating pricing and contracts, maintaining supply chain integrity, etc. I would like some help with planning out my degree in the fastest way possible to achieve my bachelors. I'm mainly doing this to check a box on my resume in hopes of moving up to a directors job and also because I'd like to finish as a personal achievement.
I earned some credit hours when I attended college out of high school but mostly partied so my grades weren't great. Online schools that will accept my classes in which I received a D would be a bonus.
Location: Tennessee, USA
Age: 41
Degree: Business Management/Administration
UNC - Greensboro:
ENGL 1105 - English Comp I - A
ENGL 1999 - English Comp II - B
Virginia Tech:
ENGL 1106 - Freshman English - A
CS 1104 - Intro to CS - D
HUM 1604 - Intro to Hum and Arts - D
HUM 2204 - The Creative Process - B+
ECON 2005 - Principles of Econ - C+
ECON 2006 - Principles of Econ - D
SOC 1004 - Intro Sociology - B
MATH 1525 - Calculus with Matrices - C
PHYS 1054 - History of the Universe - C+
Cost isn't really a factor although I'd like to not spend a fortune. Finding a path that will allow me to finish quickly is my top priority. I don't have a preference between tests or writing papers. I think I would rather take tests in general but either is fine.
Thanks in advance!

UMPI's BABA with Supply Chain Management Concentration may be right up your alley.
https://online.umpi.edu/degrees/undergra...anagement/
You can transfer in up to 90 credits with most of them completed on Sophia plus the credits you already have (except for the classes with D's). You won't find many schools that will accept D's. I wouldn't worry about what happened in the past and instead focus on the right now and getting your degree as quickly as possible.

Thank you ss20ts. I had looked at UMPI along with WGU, TESU, etc. I'm really agnostic as to the concentration of the BABA simply because I'm already well established in my career. Is there a good list somewhere that shows me what courses I need to take at other websites such as Sophia, Study.com, etc. prior to enrolling at whichever university I decide upon?

Here's UMPI's wiki for the forum:
https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Un...g_a_Degree
The Supply Chain Management Concentration isn't listed, but the rest of the degree requirements are the same for the BABA's. I suggested this concentration for you because you already have a great deal of experience and knowledge in this subject so you should be able to complete the Concentration courses quickly.

TESU will take your D's, as long as they're not in the AoS - so you can use them in the GE area, or Free Electives.
But that would not be my reasoning to choose a degree there; you only have 3 D's, so honestly, this is not a big enough deal to make you want to choose the over another school, as those credits are easy to find just about anywhere.
Instead, I would look at EU vs. UMPI. The main difference would be competency-based or not, and concentration. If you go with UMPI, Supply Chain will be a really easy option for you, making it quicker to get through; while if you choose EU because you're not interested in CBE, then your concentration would be General Business, and you'd choose whatever courses you'd like.
Either option is a good one. UMPI gives you some graded credits, which would help offset your bad GPA. I'd probably go with that option, simply because you want an MBA.

I don't disagree with your reason dfrecore now that I've done more research on sophia.com and SDC. I'm leaning strongly towards UMPI although not happy about having to write a ton of papers. Any other tips on building up my GPA? Also what is EU?

Building up your GPA can only be done by taking courses which are graded and earning good grades. Courses from Sophia and Study won't have a grade as they are pass/fail. EU is Excelsior University. They recently changed their name from Excelsior College.

It looks like EU accepts transfer up to 114 credit hours. Are there any ways to earn all credits outside of EU then transfer them in and just take 7 credit hours there to finish up the degree? Is EU an actual brick and mortar university like UMPI?

Yes, but that won't improve your GPA. Many MBA program want grades for the last 30 or 60 credits of your bachelor's degree program. They require a specific GPA for admissions. I wouldn't recommend EU for you. EU is not a brick & mortar university like UMPI. UMPI is part of the University if Maine state university system. As such, it has a physical campus with the majority of students completing their courses on campus. EU is an office building with online courses.

Although writing papers can suck for many people, if you want to improve your GPA then UMPI is the cheapest/easiest way to go. Each class is graded based on a single paper/project, so it's not as much writing as it might appear at first. And most students are able to complete their UMPI degrees in 4-6 months. IIRC, you can take up to 8-10 months and it'll still be cheaper than Excelsior.
To improve your GPA, you can also take whatever non-required classes at UMPI have an exam instead of a paper/project. There aren't many, but taking them could be a definite help.
