Help me find a conservation masters...

Good morning from the UK, this is my first post here so hello everyone. I'm hoping you can help me find an appropriate masters degree to apply for. 

I want to do an online/distance learning masters in conservation that isn't expensive. Loosely, my aim here is to learn about the operations of conservation as well as the business of conservation, so not only how to protect and conserve species but also how to practically run a modern conservation project successfully and all that entails in terms of fundraising/finances/trade. 

The problem is there are so many different terms for conservation that it is hard to filter and the conservation masters I know about (Kent Durrell and Edinburgh) are both very expensive. I know there are plenty of European and global universities that offer masters degrees for low thousands or even for free. I am working so this needs to be something I can study part time.

Not sure if this fits, but Troy has an Environmental Science masters with a lot of flexibility in course choice, so that might allow the type of conservation focus you're looking for. Not dirt cheap, but pretty reasonable:

Another option is to look at MBAs, MPAs, or MPPs that allow focus on government and non-profit work. There is a cheap MPP at Coursera, but probably not the right focus:

Environmental science or engineering, management, or similar studies may work, you can try to find a concentration or minor in conservation if needed. Did you do a search of a few select institutions or create a short list of institutions already? Are you wanting to break that down to a few top choices and a backup or two? If you haven't started, I would do a search first and list the ones you're interested in, for example, do the MOOC options from Coursera, EdX, FutureLearn, Woolf, and so on...

Thanks for your help - I'd be grateful if you could let me know the best places to search. I have tried MOOC options without success. It doesn't have to be entirely free, I can afford a few thousand.

I actually don't know much about their programs beyond that one and a handful of other English programs, like one focused on work with UN World Heritage sites. A few years back I was researching environmental science and biology online programs in the U.S., but all the ones I found were over $10K total, which sounds like it's over your budget. If it's not over your budget, let me know and I can dig around to see if any of those programs might be relevant.

wow, i didn't realize that you went to eastern gateway cc. how was your time there? IIRC, didnt they have a program that union members could go to school there for free, but they eventually shut that down?

I did EGCC through the union program. The classes at EGCC were fine. I didn't complete my associates there though because I was taking it slow and they shut down the program and then the college before I was done. They were being sued by the fed for misuse of Pell Grants and decided to shut down rather than fight it (Because they no longer had much income with the Fed withholding Pell Grants from them). I think there's a thread about that somewhere on this board.

If you are willing to attend an onsite program in the UK, Oxford offers a Postgraduate Diploma in this subject: https://www.lifelong-learning.ox.ac.uk/a...n-practice

Tuition looks to be £17,910, but Oxford tends to do very well with scholarship support, and this program itself has dedicated scholarships.

Personally, I think attending Oxford was the single highest ROI investment I have ever made.
