Help Creating a Degree Map for COSC BS Child Studies major

Hi. I hope someone can help me. I would like to get a BS in Child Studies from COSC. For the gen eds, I am planning to take CLEP and DSST exams, and use Straighterline for science with a lab, and ALEKS for the math requirement. But pretty much beyond the general reqs, I am at a loss for what exams, or alternative courses to take so I can save money and graduate quicker. However, I think I may be able to use some Study.com proctored courses for a couple of the ECEs in the core major courses. Can someone help me make up an inexpensive degree plan so I can try to obtain this degree inexpensively?

This degree is not able to be tested out of - it's a more expensive one (and for the pay you normally get in that field, probably not worth it).

Have you looked at your local CC? They usually have better prices, and lots have an ECE degree.

I think this major is actually quite doable at COSC. Coopersmith has 11 ECE courses approved by NCCRS, many evaluated at upper level. I think Penn Foster has something like 17 ECE courses approved by ACE. And Study.com has 7 education courses approved by ACE.

So there are courses available in that area, but not necessarily the RIGHT courses.  There are some classes that MAY work, but it's uncertain how COSC will bring them in, especially if UL is required but there is only LL available.

But if you think you can put together a degree plan for the OP, go ahead and give it a shot.  Maybe COSC will even pre-approve it, although I'm not certain they do that for non-enrolled students.

Child Development, Sociology of the Family, Psychology of Exceptional Children, and Research Methods.

There are two options. Either the BA/BS in General Studies with a Concentration in Child Studies or the B.S. Child Studies. The General Studies Degree with a Concentration in Child Studies has less specific requirements than the BS Child Studies degree does.

You are correct. As shadowgem pointed out, I was looking at the general studies, child studies concentration and not the child studies major. The concentration would probably be much easier to get taking cheap tests and online courses than the major.

Hi. Many thanks for your ideas and assistance. I spoke with someone at COSC . They told me the General studies concentration will be phased out, and will be replaced by the Child Studies major. My end goal is to become a kindergarten teacher. I am planning to use the bachelor's from COSC and apply to WGU's teacher college to obtain my teacher's licensure and get a masters in elementary education. I thought it would be easier and quicker to get my bachelor's from COSC and test out of as much as possible using CLEP, DSST, and ACE credits since COSC will allow more credits to tranfer in so can get the bachelor's quicker.
