Hi Bandele,

For the actual Psychology major itself, you'll need the following (or their equivalents):

CLEP Intro to Psychology
CLEP Intro to Educational Psychology
DSST Principles of Statistics
DSST Human Growth & Development (or CLEP Lifespan Development Psychology)
DSST Organizational Behavior (or upper level ECE OB)
ECE Social Psychology
ECE Abnormal Psychology
ECE Research Methods in Psychology

You will also need to find a course in the following (no exams available):

??? 3-credits in Biopsychology
??? 3-credits in History & Systems of Psychology

A co-requisite for the Psychology degree is:

DSST Ethics in America (or upper level ECE Ethics)

You will also need to fulfill Excelsior's Research & Writing requirement:

You can do this either by taking a 1-credit course, or submitting a research paper from any upper level psych course you might end up taking.

Hope that helps,
Snazz

I know that it used to be possible to get the whole major through the Psychology GRE. [That is no longer true.** - WRONG] Which requirements are not met through the Psychology GRE?

**Sorry, my mistake!

Hi,

I haven't heard that the GRE no longer covers the entire major at Excelsior. Do you know with certainty that this is now the case?

Unless they have recently changed their policy with regard to the GRE, here is how it works: Excelsior awards credits toward a psychology major on a sliding scale based on how well (or how poorly) you score on the GRE.

In order to be awarded full credits, you have to score in the 80th percentile (this is not easily achieved). The lower you score, the fewer credits you will earn towards your Psychology major.

Also, even if you are awarded the full 30 psych credits for the GRE (12 lower, 18 upper), you would obviously still need to make sure you meet all co-requisites for graduation (such as WER, writing & research, ethics, statistics).

Hope that helps,
Snazz

Major apologies! I am sorry to cause alarm on this topic!

Between your post that you couldn't use CLEP etc. to meet all of the new Psychology major requirements:

http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...y#post7133

and reading part of this post wrong:

http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post50519

I mistakenly thought that the Psychology GRE didn't cover everything.

I am so glad to know that it is still a valid method of earning credit for the major. That is great!

I am chasing a B.S. in Psych. I ended up applying for SUNY Empire State College to be able to get the History of Psych class and Sensation & Perception class (required under A.Biological and Physiological Found.). There are a few electives I thought about taking there too (tuition is $207/unit) but have reconsidered and will test-out instead. From there, I will end up transferring everything to Excelsior so I can avoid the 32 units required for res. at ESC.
LSU, OSU and BYU do NOT have online/distance classes in these two subjects. I just checked. Other than that, my plan looks exactly like the initial reply.

Wish I could be of more help.

I just reread the requirements for a Psych major at Excelsior. It says you need an "intermediate or upper level course" that corresponds to Educational Psych. I was planning to fulfill it with the CLEP Intro Educ Psych (like I've read others are doing) but it has now occurred to me that it isn't int. or upper level. Has anyone fulfilled this req. with the CLEP?

Also, not the same topic, but I'm sure someone can help. If I major in Psych can my second depth be in Sociology? Or does it have to be somewhere outside the Social Sciences realm?

Thanks in advance!

You could take a look at the DANTES Organizational Behavior. It is PSY-361, and should fulfill your requirements.
