I'm getting down to it here. Only a few more credits to go and I will have to decide if I intend to go the per credit route and attempt to satisfy residency via TECEPS. Obviously a lot has been posted on the subject, but I haven't seen any personal accounts. My thought was that it might be fairly time intensive preparing for these exams and that could outweigh the savings in my opinion. I will be at the 93 credit mark shortly via clep, aleks, and SL exclusively. So I think at this point it's TECEPS or DSSTs. So can anyone comment on the relative difficult and amount of studying required for the two formats?

To me it would be subject-matter dependent; I've only recently started the Marketing TECEP, but other than picking up new marcom jargon a lot of it seems fairly common-sense enough, and the feedback I've gathered says that it's not overly challenging.
For TECEPs, more than anything you want to make sure you hit the exam breakdown more so than CLEP/DSSTs from what I've seen around; they seem to be more challenging overall, as they are supposed to be the equivalent of final exams, as opposed to the general knowledge questions CLEPs/DSSTs seem to have.
Between TECEPs and DSSTs, I've found DSSTs easier; I've gone almost cold if you will when it came to Organizational Behavior, Principles of Supervision, Intro to Business, and Business Ethics and Society (in this order). I'll post up on the Advertising TECEP once I have it done.
Also, depending on which TECEP you want the exam feedback section might have a thread on it, so that's worth taking a look at too.
Edit: My goal when I applied to TESC was to take TECEPs for the 24-credit residency requirement. Since I've already taken too many CLEPs/DSSTs due to my pursuit of my CCAF degree, however, I'm stuck taking at least two classes that don't have TECEP options.

I was going to try to do 8 TECEPs, but I've decided not to for two reasons.
The first, the InstantCert study method is a VERY good learning method for me. I learn faster and more completely than going through a textbook.
The second, there is a plethora of study materials available for DSST's and CLEPs and I've found very limited information on the TECEPs. Even trying to find Feedback for the TECEP's that InstantCert provides flashcards for is difficult.
However, it would be great if more people would take the TECEP route and write in on the forum to help more people in the future. I personally have not done any TECEP's so I can't offer input as to their format or difficulty.

I'm not sure if this might be helpful to you or not, but I recently wrote to TESC to find out if a person initially enrolled under the "Per Credit Tuition Option" and later wanted to switch to one of the other tuition options, if they could do so... and if so if they would still be held to the 24 credit residency requirement. In my case right now I am super strapped financially, but if my disability comes through or I happen to find a job that doesn't require using my knee, my financial situation could quickly change. If it does not though, I might be having to fulfill all of the 24 credits on the per credit tuition option. Personally though, I'm looking at going the PLA route for some upper-level credit, and fulfilling the rest with TECEPS as necessary.
