I came across an
article unrelated to education which mentions bad timing.
It says "graduating from college in an economic downturn year might still be negatively affecting you more than a decade later".
Wow, that is such a big effect. I guess current and near future graduates are safe.

Interesting. I suspect that there's a psychological aspect involved, too. You pick a major, spend 50k on a traditional degree to "get a job" in your field. You test hard, study, live on ramen, get your degree... and then realize the job you had lined up doesn't exist. Not only are you not making that 80k a year, you have a BA and you're struggling to pay the bills working in a call center for AT&T doing everything you hate.

Ideas, you seem to imply that we are not currently in an economic downturn. I beg to differ, but only time will tell. I have found Strauss and Howe's "The 4th turning" an interesting read. On a more philosophical note, I worry about my children and the state of the world they will inherit. But I do not mean to derail this thread.

Well, I think we are in a big one, or will be, but economic graphs seem to show the past year is better than the previous two, etc. I worry about future generations too.
