Hello,
I am new to this forum. I wondered if anyone could give me any information about the freshman English composition Clep test? I need to take this test to complete my degree. I graduate in August. I do not need to take the essay part of the test just the multiple choice. If I study IC is that good enough to pass. I have read that the test is hard. Can anyone give me a heads up? My college said that I would receive credit of English composition 1 and English composition 2 if I passed the clep test.
Thank you!:p

Hello Michelle, My name's Brandon. I took this test a few weeks ago. IF you can read & write well you are already half-way there. They have some stuff such as:
*What doesn't fit? (ex.) The group went on rides at the fair -or- The groups wents on rides at the fair. Obviously this is a bit simplified but it's not too far off of the mark.
*They will ask you some stuff on poetry, such as what does (passage) mean in the context of the story?... Chuck out 2 wrong answers and then narrow it down. It isn't too difficult, but be aware.
* KNOW (repeat) KNOW how to do a bibliography. They will ask (ex.) [...] was an example of a newspaper, journal publication, magazine, or book?
- [...] in the A) original author. B) editor. C) contributor. D) writer of the foreword.
This can be learned by using APA technique. It's not too difficult, and you have time. Good luck!!!

Hello Michelle, APA stands for "American psychological association" they have their own recognized writing style. The "official" version is like 2 inches thick and will make you want to take a long walk off a short pierhilarious
I used "A writer's reference" by Diana Hacker to learn. It outlines MLA & APA writing styles. It has good concise examples. I'm sure that their is also a plethora of free stuff online.
I would strongly advise you to practice writing and citing APA. Write a paragraph on whatever you please. Cram in citations from books, newspapers, journals, magazines, internet web sites, etc, etc.
When I first had to learn APA I was irritated and overwhelmed. Now that I know it I'm glad I learned it. Good luck! Any more questions just ask, or send me a private message through the forum.
The best things in life aren't things.

Hello Michelle,
I have not taken the Freshman Comp., but I have taken the English Comp. w/ essay. I imagine they are pretty similar, so I would recommend that you read The Elements of Style by William Strunk and E.B. White. Focus on the punctuation, etc. in the front. It is a little book and contains basic info. Short and sweet.
