Can anyone give any details about the French 1 course? I need some electives and this seems like a fun course. When I searched I read that the final requires a recording and a writen component. What all is required to reach the final milestone? Is this a course that it is possible to accelerate if one has some basic knowledge of French or is this a course with extensive workload. Of course everyone's knowledge is different, but im curious if this is a course that one can demonstrate preexisting knowledge easily. (I want to avoid CLEP, etc because I need residency classes)

I took Spanish 1 at UMPI with the same professor. Every Milestone is a series of questions which you have to provide a written response in French. I wouldn't take the CLEP. The language ones are tricky from what I've read. One issue you will have because you have a basic understanding of French already is sticking to the low level basics of the vocab you'll be required to use. The Final Assessment is an essay answering a series of questions and a recording with different questions. Your responses will be in French. The professor can be less than polite at times. She has accused several students of cheating which wasn't the case at all. It's called using a dictionary and having a background in the language. I highly encourage anyone attending UMPI to complete Spanish 1 on InstantCert and avoid her whenever possible. InstantCert doesn't have any writing or speaking.

I had a great time with the French I professor. Please email her and talk to her about any concerns. Students that reach out to her if they're struggling, she will take time to help. I found her to be really nice. The milestones were straight forward. I had nothing returned.

@OP, I have a few quick Questions 1) Have you applied to UMPI and have an evaluation?
2) Basically - How many residency classes do you have left to complete at UMPI?
3) I suggest you do all the required Upper Level from UMPI and anything else that is required, at minimum 30 credits

We had the same professor and I didn't find her to be very helpful. I did email her often because her responses to the Milestones didn't make sense. Same with the Final Assessment. She has accused me and another student on her of cheating when we didn't. I'd avoid her like the plague.

Like a lot of other people I have a ton of credits so the real requirement is the 30 hour residency. I'll need to do four upper level history credits and then all I'll have left are electives. Any suggestions? I test well, so I'd always prefer testing over essays, but anything is fine. Just trying to see how quickly I can knock this out.

Like only use words you learn in the course and use very simple sentences (i.e. I like dogs. I like cats. I am small.) If you get too complicated, she'll accuse you of cheating. Other than that, it's a really easy class.

You won't find many exams at UMPI in general. Less than 1/4 of all of the classes have exams. History is mostly papers. You need to discuss your options for classes with your advisor. They will know what exactly you have left in your degree plan that needs to be completed. They will also know which courses are offered when. Every course isn't offered every session but they are all offered every semester.

I am familiar with the requirements and offered courses this semester. I'm just trying to get a sense of which elective courses would be well suited for acceleration.

There's no way to be able to answer that. We don't know what you have taken and what is needed for your degree. We don't know what topics you are knowledgable in. YourPace doesn't have an acceleration thing like WGU. Most classes have papers. Hard to accelerate writing papers. There isn't a list of electives either. Your electives you work out with your academic advisor who will let you know what classes are available when. Every course is offered every semester but not every session.
