Well, this is a first for me.
I have a person who has sent me a friend request. I've never gotten one on here. I rejected it, but now they're sending me another one. Can anyone tell me if they are "friends" with other people on this forum, and what exactly that means? I can't quite figure out what will happen if I say yes, or if I should just PM them and tell them to stop friend requesting me. They're not a "friend" in any sense of the word, so it's kind of weird.

It's the same as friending, following, or connecting with someone on other social media platforms. I've accepted several friend requests. Other than being able to easily find someone to send a PM, I don't see the advantage of being friends with someone on a forum. I would just be nice and accept the friend request. That person probably thinks you're a jerk now. hilarious

If their posts don't matter, perhaps you can add them to your "ignore list" so any future requests are ignored. hilarious
Maybe after the third try the poor chap will take a hint and stop.

I forgot the other advantages, if anyone sees them as such. You can adjust your settings so that only contacts can send you PMs and leave messages on your page.

I have a few forum "friends", but I actually don't see that anything changes when you become friends or not. I also made some friend requests before I realized it doesn't really matter/change anything on the forum. It's not like fb where you are then more likely to see their posts or something, since all posts are weighted equally. eeya:

if they need a ride to or from the airport you are obligated to drive them
if they move to a new place you have to help them pack and move

When you visit your My Profile page, you will find a list of your friends postings.
BTW, the ignore feature is also nifty.

Same here. I've never sent a friend request, but I accept them when sent to me because I don't accept friend requests on FB, so it's my compromise of sorts. That said, I don't think it does anything different or gives anyone access to anything that isn't already public.

Yes! It took me a long time to think to use it- earlier this summer I put it into use and it's been awesome.
