Northcentral University??

Has anyone taken classes at NCU? What was your experience? I am looking at MBA Healthcare Admin. I understand their degrees can be completed quickly and they are fully accredited....

My brother is working on his PhD there and likes it. Ryoder is going there too.. maybe he'll pop up and comment. He did go through some of his classes very quickly but it sounded a little bit intense for me.

If you have a lot of time and are good at writing and working on your own, it may be a good fit. I personally like the MBA I'm working on right now because I like the interaction with the other students. At the MBA level, I think it's just as valuable to network and learn from your peers, especially if you choose a program that's full of working adults. I have met quite a few other people that are mid to senior career-level and I wouldn't trade this aspect of my program for anything.

...That being said, I have been doing the MBA for a full year now and will graduate at the end of August 2013. I am SO SO SO sick of school at this point, but still have a year to go. However, keep in mind that everyone I work with knows that I started an MBA and it was part of the reason I got a promotion. If I took 6 months to finish it and everyone realized this, I believe it would do more harm than good.

You'll need to balance how quickly you need the MBA with how much time and money you have. Are you likely to finish an 18-24 month MBA? Do you want to network with other like-minded people? OR do you want to do 6-12 months of intense work and try to finish sooner?

Whatever you decide, keep in mind that the work is not the same as your undergrad. You have to be an excellent writer and there aren't any shortcuts at all. Even if you start the program at NCU, if you finish "quickly" it will definitely involve significant sacrifices with your free time.

Good luck!

Weren't you looking for inexpensive programs? Troy University is $450 per credit hour compared to $637 at Northcentral. Bellevue University is $485 per credit hour. Western Governors University is $3250 per 6-month term where you can complete as many credits as possible. University of South Dakota is $383 per credit hour regardless of residency. Saint Joseph's of Maine is $430 per credit hour. TUI is $375 per credit hour.

Yes, I was looking for inexpensive but I am unemployed and have been for quite awhile. It's a hell of a dilemma. I really need a Master's, I think, to get any kind of decent paying job but I don't have a ton of time or money to spend. Suggestions??

What major is your bachelors? WGU would probably be the quickest and most affordable option.

I have a BA and AA from TESC. They are both general studies. I have an AA-liberal arts from Excelsior. I am a certified medical asst, certified nurse aide, ekg tech, national cert. guardian, etc. I owned my own business, too. I just looked at WGU. I like the competency based program. Maybe I could do it in a year?

I've seen some people brag on the internet that they completed WGU graduate programs in a year or less. I go to a traditional school and I plan to finish in 14 months. One of my classmates is finishing in 12 months.

As far as employment prospects, I hope you knew that a liberal arts/studies degree wasn't going to add much to your marketability. Have you looked at insurance companies? They normally only require a bachelors in anything. I always see openings for EKG techs, but I live in a large city. Then, there is social services. They might like your medical background for insurance or social services.
