Underrated University

They could definitely be used for the TESU BA Biology (with mostly RA credits for medical school / grad school requirements) or a non-traditional DIY postbacc. Minimum 90 RA Credits (including all prereqs) + a BA/BS is required for medical school entrance. So 30 credits could be ACE/NCCRS for a 120 credit degree plan.

https://uiu.edu/academics/online-distanc...web-based/

If UIU is 100% true to its "no proctoring for non-math courses", this would be HUGE for premed students looking to take the non-proctored course for cheap! I know that we have several cheaper options like Portage ($223/credit). BUT, portage is Proctored and UIU is NOT. The only other mostly non-proctored science courses I have found are with APUS at $350/credit, but NOT self-paced.

Online - $515/credit
Self Paced Web Based - $350/credit
UIU FlexSemester - $515/credit (this is their option to take the self-paced courses during the semester BUT be able to use financial aid for 6+ credits for a 16 week semester)

This isn't widely understood but Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Schools (DO) are WAY MORE widely accepting of online courses than Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs are.

DO students match into the same specialties as MD students, however, they TREND more towards primary care like internal medicine and family medicine.

I don't need any of these courses because I've already gotten accepted to medical school.  But I love to mentor other non-traditional online students trying to get into medical school.

I hate seeing people killing themselves by juggling in-person + proctored courses with work/life when they could save so much stress and energy taking online courses to get accepted into DO schools. I actually plan to write up a "DIY get into medical school cheaply and 100% online - and mostly non-proctored " in the near future.

UIU Offers the Following Sciences/Prereqs (with lab too unless indicated)  Non-Proctored (Non-Math) :

You should do one for hacking nursing for those getting their ADN or BSN, although I incline mostly toward ADN since you can BSN from there online.

Advantages:
  • Up to 90 Transfer Credits for Undergraduate - 78 UL, 12 LL
  • Accepts Ace, CLEP, DSST, etc. credits
  • Regionally accredited (by the HLC)
  • Self-Paced Web-Based
  • Self-Paced Paper-Based
  • Proctored Exams not required for Web-Based, with the exception of MATH courses
  • $250 Per Credit Hour for Undergraduate and Graduate degree if Active Duty
  • $250 Per Credit Hour for Undergraduate and $325 for Graduate degree if qualified spouse or dependent of Active Duty

So it's pretty much like any other university that offers asynchronous and wants to max out the TA cap at $250. Not anything super noteworthy, but depending on what you want (if they offer a niche degree), it could be one of many choices.

Yes, these are excellent options for those looking for a "science" year, or a pre-professional program qualification year, meaning you're taking all the required sciences for that specific program, be it dentistry, engineering, medicine, nursing, vet, etc. It's great for those that are looking at university classes online, vs the ones at the local university.

MODS, any way to highlight this thread and also share it to the health professions page on the sister site?

I just want to thank you guys. I am flirting with a BS in Psych, but my ultimate goal is a Neuroscience / Biopsychology / Cog. science program. I really wanted to go fast with TESU or UMPI, but the pass/fail had me worried.

It looks like UIU takes a ton of Gen Ed from study, which would allow me to focus just on the science classes I'll need for grad school afterward. Will have to research how well they do with VA and Gi Bill Smile Just wanted to say you guys rock for all the effort and knowledge you invest here.
