Finished straighter line accounting 1

I just finished straighter line accounting 1 last night. I started with reading accounting demystified on the plane and while doing card. Then I read the rea clep book and did one practice exam followed by the instantcert flash cards. I was almost ready to clep out of it with maybe ten more hours of studying but decided to try straighter line since I need it for acct 2anyway.

First of all, you must must have the hardcover book. I had bought this already on amazon used the other week but never read it. I had seen and done some practice quiz questions so I knew the exam format but I didn't realize how very close to the book the tests are.

One third of the questions can be answered by the glossary or by finding the word in the index and goingtotheintro paragraph in the text. The glossary is a great place to Starr because it defines the word and has the page number where that term is first mentioned in the text.

Another third are computational but you can always find an example of that exact problem in the text itself in the chapter material.

Another third or so of the questions are from section subheadings, such as what are the different classes of xyz on the abc statement. Well go to the section on the abc statement and you'll see these classes listed as topics.

There are two exams of 25 questions followed by a 40 question comprehensive mid term. Then two more exams on various chapters of the book followed by a 50question comprehensive final.

Lender up scoring high nineties on everything but the final because it was 2am when I took it and I guessed wrong at the last two questions.

I ended up with a 95% in the course and will be doing managerial soon.
I plan to read the relevant chaptersin the text prior to taking the exams but I am confident that if I know the high level concepts i should be able to pass the exam by researching in the book during the tests.

I hope this helps anyone thinking of taking the class.I spent about 40 minutes on each 25 question test and 70 minutes on the exams followed by 90 minutes on the final.

I logged into the forum this morning and saw your post. After slacking off in my studies for the past week, this inspired me to finish up my Accounting I. THANK YOU!!! I needed this little push to get me back into the swing of things.

I have been working on this all day (I work from home and lol hope my boss never comes to this forum) and ended up BARELY getting a B in the class - 82% overall, with an 88% on my final.

I would add to anyone taking SL to make sure you take any notes from your tests IMMEDIATELY after you take them. I haven't figured out if there is a way to go back and look at your tests once you've closed them out. I didn't print or save my tests when I took them and would have really liked to have had this info to study for the final.

WOW... I really really hate accounting and am glad that part I is over. I will still have to do part II and managerial, which looks like SL should have ACE approved soon.

My brain is fried but I'm very happy. Thanks again.

Awesome Vicki yeah I agree some of the stuff I got wrong on the exams reappeared on the mid term and final so next time around I'll be sure to take notes after the test.
I read some of the content for acct two today in the car ride for about three hours so it might be possible to complete it in the next week or two.

I do think it's difficult, but a really good way to squeeze a class into a busy schedule. I would say that if you like accounting and find it relatively easy to study and understand, you might want to try a CLEP first because it will be much quicker. However, if it's a topic that you really need to learn in more detail or just can't cram enough to pass the CLEP, SL is a very good option. SL is self-paced, so you can finish much quicker than a normal semester, but it will likely take longer than the week I usually take to prepare for and take a CLEP/DSST.

On another note, I just started the SL Macroeconomics and will post feedback for that once I've gone through it.

I agree. Unfortunately with my lackluster Macroeconomics CLEP score, I have to take a class or wait 6 months (which would interfere with my graduation plans).

I still prefer IC + CLEP/DSST as a easier and quicker option in most cases, but love to have as many choices as possible.

Thanks for the review...I finished up with SL Macro over the weekend and will be signing up for Acct II soon...I'm hoping Acct II will not have as many tests as in Macro (21 test!!)...that was way too many.

Burbuja0512: To view previous test, click on "My Grades" in your Blackboard account...next, click on the course you want to view...stroll down to the Graded exam you want to review...click on the grade (ie. 35, 38, etc)...when the next page comes up, click on the grade again and it will bring up the exam for you to view.
